Brisbane NYE Fireworks

Postby tsanglabs on Tue Dec 28, 2004 7:47 pm

I'm spending this NYE in Brisbane 8) and I was wondering if any locals can recommend a good vantage point for fireworks that is not completely packed, like southbank. BTW, Happy New Year Everyone

tsanglabs.... you can't go past kangaroo point for the best view... you'll need to get there a little earlyish to get a spot....

happy new year to you also.

Not sure if they still do it, later on in the night they may close the exits to the riverside expressway and allow people to have a riverside view of the fireworks with Southbank as a backdrop.

Although I think the best view is from a boat in the river! Just make sure you keep a hand on the camera at all times

Enjoy!

Just saw your post and really...the best point would be from Z Block QUT at Gardens Point which is directly opposite Southbank. Trouble is getting in there as security will probably have it shut tight. But...you should be able to get onto the campus and up on to one of the overhead walkways outside the pool which should give a vantage point for the fireworks. See if you can do a recce prior to the night and good luck.

Ok here are a few shot I took, I feel as though I was a bit too far away.

ISO 200
Aperture F9
Exposure time 1.6-2 seconds
Focal length 70-80mm (I was about 1.5 away)
WB Auto
NR Off

All I did was crop and resize.

I think they turned out quite well! Hopefully it wasn't too crowded for you!

Actually I had a bit of trouble holding my tripod steady, with all the small children trying to push through. But I think it would have been the same everywhere that was any good, at least it was not as crowded as southbank.

I was at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs lookout by the way.
