Here is an idea ....... should we have a dinner the same time as Sydney or wait till later in the year and have a xmas dinner or lunch

If we have it closer to xmas, say, early to mid November, we could invite Gary, Leigh, Birddog, and all the other members...... could be a good party......

lots of thoughs please

Good idea Bernie

Got any venues in mind.

Cha Cha Cha Grill is a bit expensive but you can't beat it for a great steak.

Would make it worth while the southerners travelling up for.

Bernie I'm in :)
As far as venues - I can tell you where all of the McDonalds, Hungry Jacks and KFC shops are
The pub at the Story Bridge sounds good ..... or there is always the mainstay - Brekky Creek Hotel (great steaks - or at least they were last time I was there)....... Calling Simon, where are you Simon??????

Great idea Bernie.
It would be good to meet some of the Sydney members too if they could make it.
Storey Bridge Hotel would be fine - I don't think we need to go too upmarket. There are many other options in this style as well.
Birddog has mentioned not getting too close to the Christmas season, so October might be a goer?

What are people in SEQ doing for the anniversary night???

Cha Cha Char Grill is fantastic. Did about 6 months in Brisbane earlier this year for work, and went there every 2nd or 3rd week for steaks.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, there's a chance I'll have to go back up there for bits and pieces for work in the next few months :)

November sounds like a good compromise. As does the Brekky Creek - Storey Bridge Hotel is good but parking can be a nightmare and it gets very crowded. Brekky Creek is a little more laid back. That being said, there are plenty of other places around so I'll put my thinking cap on.

Even somewhere like the Hog's Breath Cafe or the Icon Bar at Raby Bay Harbour, Cleveland, might be worthwhile for a group that may, at times, get a little rowdy  . Close to trains as well.

Cha Cha Char is very nice and also central but it can be very expensive. Throw in a few bottles of wine (they have an excellent cellar) and you may have to re-mortgage.

Rather than the Brekkie Ck, how about the Norman at the Gabba? Much better steaks IMHO! Parking isn't as bad as Brekkie Ck - you will get a park, just depends on how far you have to walk (there's plenty of side streets).

I'll be in it. Could I suggest you consider the Viet Hoa in West End, Brisbane?

Of course it has nothing to do with the fact that we love it and dine there with friends every wednesday ;-) We get really shirty (note) if the bill gets over $11.50 per head for the best quality tucker in town!

let's do it soon ... there is so much to learn about this new digital stuff I need to talk to some of you guys

Bernie,

This was a great idea.

Did I miss something or did it fall into the too hard basket?

Is it too late to re-arouse (Is that a real word?) interest.

Seems like there were lots of views about suitable venues.

Maybe if say yourself and Manta could come up with a venue and date it might get things rolling again.

Not a lot of activity lately from the Queenslanders and it seems like our southern counterparts are having all the fun.

Gary,

Thanks for that.

I have just been looking and I guess I can read between the lines a bit.

Been a bit inactive lately due to business interests and am probably one of the few in the dark.

However, I see myself being involved in both forums as time permits and can now follow up on that Brisbane Dinner.

Thanks to John also - obviously no need to respond now John

No lines to read between, really.

John wanted to start a different forum, and to do things differently from how they're done here. One can only applaud and support his initiative.

In time it will develop its own flavour and feel, and membership of both forums will provide a number of benefits.

One thing I have noticed is that although John is Sydney based, the most active members there seem to be Queensland based, and thus it sort of seems appropriate that those people arrange their own dinner.

That said, many people remain active on both forums, and as I said, that is something that I actively support.

Thanks for that Gary.

Bob - I was just wondering yesterday what you had been up to.

Gary's summed it up very well and I echo his comments regarding the cross-membership of forums. Both forums welcome like-minded individuals who enjoy photography and all the social benefits that derive from it but you will find some differences between the two.

So.. you're more than welcome over at digitalslr and, like me, enjoy the best of both forums.

Thanks

I will certainly be active also in both forums as time permits.

But it seems I have missed a couple of local meets through being unaware of the digitalslr site. I am now in the know and able to remedy that.

Usually I have plenty of time, but to answer your question Simon, we have commenced a substantial refurbishment here at the Mooloolaba Resort and I have had to put photography and the forum to the side for a little bit while I manage that project. The real refurb. action will commence 14th November and continue for about two and a half weeks. I am hoping to get to the dinner though and I will soon join up on digital SLR and complete whatever I need to in order to register
