Hi Leigh

I'm from Brisbane - Jindalee actually

Only problem is I don't have a D70 yet. Tax refund coming in soon and will be buying then.

The way this forum is growing, it won't be too long before we will outnumber the New South Welshmen and women!

Cheers

Graham

I've just been out to Willowbank to get some motor racing shots, test and tune on sat (drags) and one day wonders on sun (circuit) free entry on the sun which was good. It would be good to have another D70 user there to chat with and find out what works best with settings and stuff.

Yeah, I been wanting to have a crack at Willowbank drag photos but whenever there is a drag meet on I am either busy or feeling lazy and don't go.
Some dusk shots with flames shooting up from the car would be awesome!

I'm a Brisbanite as well, live South Side, work in the city. Have had my D70 since about July and absolutely love it.

Will post a few pics up from various places when I get the time. Love taking pics of animals and motorsports the most.

Hi Brett & welcome
Did you realise that you are member #200? It has been a long awaited event. I hope you didn't mind my cheeky post:
http://forum.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?t=1020
I understand what a D70 is, but what are:
MY00 (6MT) - 13B BP - Caspian 9x23 - Remington 1100 (for sale)
Good to have you aboard.

MY00 - model year 2000 Subaru Imprezza WRX (it's a car).

13B BP - 13B is a Mazda Rotary engine, the '13' being its 1.3 litres in capacity (very misleading, cannot be compared with pistol engines), BP=Bridgeport, a type of intake modification resulting in extremely loud exhaust note and corresponding power increase. (technically it's a car engine, but I'm assuming it's affixed to an RX7?!)

Caspian 9x23 - I'm drawing a blank.

Remington 1100... oh dear. Don't cross this guy up the wrong way! ;)

Oh I see now... the Caspian - Caspian Arms, it's a firearm. 1911 style - errmmm, a "classic" style of semi-automatic pistol.

REALLY don't get this guy mad at you... ;)

Yep pretty much spot on.

The WRX is my everyday car and my other passion. The 13B is not affixed to any car, was in an older RX4 but is a long (long long long) term project. The firearms are safely away with a dealer / storage in Darwin (where I used to live). After the last gun amnesty / buy back I've not had the heart to continue competition shooting.

And yes of course the D70, my passion, always wanted an SLR but never got around to it, then a DSLR, but who could afford them. Then Canon bought out the 300D and I was tempted but always prefered Nikon and heard of the D70 being released.

The only unfortunate thing is there was only one available in Brisbane when I got mine and it was the Harvey Norman kit with the 28-80 G rather than the 18-70 DX. I know which one I'd rather have...

Thanks for the welcome, I hope to learn heaps from here :)

Cheers
Brett

Good to see Qld getting the 200th member! There are a few of us now in the Brisbane area and I guess we will have a meet when we have enough members in the area.

Hi blacknstormy,
We will have to catch up sometime, get out and take some pics.
I'm usually out at the raceway getting some action shots. (but work stoped that for a while).
I'll be out of action for a little while going into hospital in the morning for knee reconstruction ( tore a ligament ).
hope to catch up soon though.

I'm from the Silkstone area, in Ipswich. D70S owner for only a couple of weeks, bought it with the Tamron DiII AD 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 LD lens. Its my first SLR so still learning the ropes but having heaps of fun. Hoping to get some great shots when I travel to Europe later in the year. Joined up looking for some tips and techniques etc. Everyone seems nice enough so I thought I should say hi.

So, hi! :)

Thanks for the offer, but that's a busy weekend for me. I'm spending all day Friday at the pub as part of a "team building excersise" for work (i.e work is paying us to get drunk) then spending all day Saturday at the Ipswich Cup (getting drunk but buying my own alcohol :() So I imagine I'll be spending the Sunday and possibly the Monday recovering. Maybe I can make it to the next meet.

No D70S yet - waiting just before I visit the UAE, Oman, Turkey & Singers... so I can get the TRS. Looking forward to catching some interesting street shots in some of the souqs.

Travelled around Cairo, Greece and Italy last year with an Olympus C-8080. Definatley want a better camera this time around.

To wait nearly 60 days to get the D70s with a small saving of AU$164.00 (Refunded GST from TRS) based on the price of the D70s and kit lens is at the price of AU$1800.00 GST Inc, is it worth?

I rather have the camera now and play same as learning more before my trip, on the other hand if the D70s is being naughty for the first few week, then I may have more opportunities to replace or repair it prior to my deparrture otherwise I'll have a dead camera in my luggage.

VK4CP wrote:Birddog, I'd never purchase a camera only days before I left - or worse - after I left for the reasons you point out.

The TRS scheme allows you to buy up to 30 days before travelling, so I'll purchase 30 days out... one whole month was sufficient time to play and get aquainted with the 8080 and discover any potential faults. I'm sure I can apply that to a dSLR purchase without getting caught with my pants down? (Not a good look BTW!)

Getting any GST back will immediately go towards another lens. Might as well be in my pocket (read as: eventually a camera dealers pocket!) than the Gov't coffers!!!

I am also told patience is a virtue.

You haven't found the secret and using your buying power

Be brave and smart! with your own imagination and intelligence.

It happenned

Hi all,

There are a few on here that already know me. I'm obviously at Rocklea (Just south of Moorooka on the south side of Brisvegas).

I have quite a collection of camera gear now and am looking for some ideas on what to get next.

I have all Nikon/Nikkor gear:
2 x F100 bodies
1 x D2X
1 x D200
1 x SB28
1 x SB600
1 x 12-24mm DX
1 x 18-35mm
1 x 28-105mm
1 x 35-70mm f2.8
1 x 80-200mm f2.8
1 x 300mm f4
4 x 1Gb Extreme III CF cards
Lots of other bits, bags, tripods etc.

I think I need to get something a little bit longer and maybe some updating of some gear.

Would like to update the 80-200 with a 70-200 and the 300 with an AFS or even a 2.8. Am investigating the possibilities of getting a TC17 or an 80-400mm. A 200-400mm is what I'd love to get, but can't REALLY justify the expense. Am also thinking about an 18-200mm for travel and walkabout stuff or even as an on the fly wedding lens.

I do all sorts of photography including portraiture, weddings, functions, motorsport, AFL and then my real day job as a Forensic Investigator, but we now use Canon gear at work (5D's and 30D's).

Any advice on what would be my best purchase for extra length would be greatly appreciated.

I'm off to Tassie in October to photograph the National Police AFL Championships and need some more length by then. Last year I ran the 80-200 on the D200 and the 300 on the D2X.

Cheers

Simon

Hi Simon and welcome...

I'm a canon user so can't help you with a lens choice I don't think... do Nikon have a 300?... I would have to presume that they do... maybe thats a viable option instead of forking out loads and loads on a 400.. ?

anyways welcome to the forum and I hope to see you at some of our meets in the future.. :)

Bindii,

Nikon have a 300f4, which I currently have a version of and they also have a 300f2.8. I have no desire to spend loads on a dedicated 400 and understand that the 80-400 is a bit of a compromise, but would definitely like something up around the 400mm range, be it either in the form of a zoom or a TC on my current/replacement lenses.

Thanks for the welcome.

Cheers

Hi Simon,

I think a 1.7 TC will suit your needs very well and give you a few more options on your existing lenses.

Hey all!

Just thought i'd leave a message, i'm new to this forum. I'm glad i found it. I live in Ipswich. Hubby brought me a Nikon D80 last year and i'm still learning how to use it. Looking around for some Photography courses. Love taking photos of our daughter, kids make for great subjects(well sometimes).

Hope to make some good photog friends here.
