At this stage we should have three 4wd's which means that other than the drivers we can take an additional nine people. So at this stage providing you can get to the Coast rides will not be a problem.

Ok, thanks for that Oneputt. I can easily make it to Cooroy (morning train service) but from there, things get interesting. Hmmm.... might have to look into making myself available for that day. :D

John - I may yet be a starter but can't confirm at this stage. I've spoken to Narelle (BlacknStormy) and she and Damian can come up in my 4WD if it all works out.

We're definitely coming now John. It'll be at least the four members of Team Manta (Simon, Stephanie, Ashleigh & Emily) plus possibly BlacknStormy (Narelle) and Damian (probably best described as an 'Associate Member' of the Forum and very accurately referred to as 'Fauna Guru'!)

I know Narelle and Damian were looking at buying a 4WD so they may even be driving up themselves, if their current survey workload allows a day off. They'll come with us if they haven't scored a vehicle in time (plenty of seats).

I look forward to getting the timing details/GPS meeting point co-ords/whatever when you've decided the plan of attack.

:) :)

Looking forward to it (and to putting some faces to names)

OK we have a final itinerary.

Meet Tewantin at 10.am Saturday 31st December.

Head to Cooroy and Lake McDonald - photo opportinities in Botanic Gardens birds and flowers.

Head to Pomona and then to Kin Kin - photo opportunities on the way mainly old buildings. Turn onto dirt road at about 10klms past Kin Kin.

Head into Harry Springs hut on the banks of the Noosa River.

Then via good dirt road through the Cooloola NP with lots of photo opportunities along the way.

Then onto Rainbow Beach and Inskip Point.

Return to Rainbow Beach and take Freshwater Road through to Double Island Beach.

Drive down length of beach to Tewantin crossing the river on the North Shore Ferry.

It should be a full day and we have planned the route to take advantage of the 2.45pm low tide.

We will have several car fridges with us so bring plenty to drink and some lunch. There will be some opportunities to buy food and drink but they are restricted.

Meeting place is at Mitedo's (Kevin) at 10.00am, if you are unsure of the way PM Mitedo or you can arrange to meet up with me at Maroochydore and follow me up.

List of arrendess looks like this currently.

Nicole
Sliderr
DionM
Mitedo
Oneputt
Manta +3
Blacknstormy +1

I am unsure about

Bigpix
Dargan
Neroli
jyt

If any of the latter group are starters please advise. Ta.

Looks like an awesome itinery.

Any idea on a return time (approx)? PS: Silly question, I know, but do any of you have inverters? Just in case someone runs out of batteries ... (actually may not be a problem; you Nikon boys can share around; I'm the only Canon user I think, and I have 3x spares).

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

That's one huge day Oneputt!

Certainly covering a lot of ground and it will be fantastic for anyone who hasn't seen the area before.

I've PMed Kevin for his address and so we'll see you there.

Is 10.00am perhaps a little late to get started? I know you have the tide in mind but a slightly earlier start would give a little more time for photos etc en route to Rainbow. Just a thought.

9am may be a problem for me as I am most probably getting to the coast via Public transport (wife needs the car).

Unless someone swinging thru inner SE Brisbane can give me a lift (happy to contribute for fuel).

Can I just put in a "don't discount my attendance yet" reply. :D

I am still not totally positive that I can attend, but If i do, it may be using public transport. Is anyone going to be passing through Cooroy that morning? I may be able to help pay your fuel bill. :D

When do we need to be able to definately confirm attendance?

Thanks

I gather then, through either Queensland Rail or Big Pix, Dion could make it by around 9.15am? I'd offer a lift but it would be a little uncomfortable with five of us - given the legroom that Dion needs!

New Year Meet

Postby neroli on Sun Dec 18, 2005 9:49 pm

Hi Oneputt

I'm really looking forward to this IF I can make it.

My daughter's friend is having a caesarian on the 27th, then she goes into hospital on the 2nd for chemotherapy. I've offered to go and stay with them to help with the baby but I'm not sure if or when she'll need me.

Would it be too messy to say that I'll definitely be there if I'm not helping out?

I live Northside and would be happy to offer anyone a lift... you would need a backup plan though just in case I can't make it.

Could you give a rough idea timewise, of how long it takes to get to Tewantin from the city?

Thanks!

Hope I can make it - sounds like a fantastic day.

Big Pix - if its not too much drama to pick me up, that would be great. I'll PM you my address. I'm only a few streets off the M1.

Alternately, if things don't work out, there is always the train, as Mark has pointed out (I would be catching it from Central though, Coorparoo station is almost as far for me ).

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Alternately, if things don't work out, there is always the train, as Mark has pointed out (I would be catching it from Central though, Coorparoo station is almost as far for me ).

Sounds good........pm me with the exit number also.......

Does everyone have UHFs?

I know Mitedo, Oneputt and Slider do (previous experience ) - how about the others? I have a couple of handhelds I can bring along if not (someone remind me though!).

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Uhh there is a decent sort of a fire Burning in the Cooloola NP. It should not affect us or our plans but I will be keeping an eye on it.
