Multi round voting Versus current system

Postby MHD on Mon Nov 29, 2004 11:50 am

Would people Like a heat and then a final round of voting as suggested in the other thread... or is this just making the process more complex and drawn out?

And do we sing at the Opera House when we win or get evicted? Mate, I don't think we can impose on your time any more that we do, there is only about 37 entries you said, so lets keep it simple. Also, voters may get confused when to do their piece.

Unless we wanted state based finalists (you would look a good chance MHD) :D joking

We only have... what... a week for voting? Just keep it simple.

I think for now just keep it as it is.... in the future perhaps a top 10 shootout or something similar may work.

It's a very busy time of year, and I don't think MHD needs more on his plate at such short notice.

cheers

While not wishing to try and speak for MHD or make any assumptions, I kinda suspect that the more complicated and involved the voting is, the more MHD likes it. :)

:P

I put this poll up as some people suggested the alternate...
Looks like we will be sticking with the tried and true (well tried once and true)

I for one am happy with the way the voting works as it has/does at the moment. Thanks MHD for all your hard work with this, it's cool!

Geoff.

This was my suggestion.

I wasn't trying to make it more difficult for MHD - not being a computer guy myself maybe I don't realise how complicated this makes things.

I made the suggestion because I think there is tendancy for people to vote too quickly in the first round maybe without really focusing on the best picture. Once the best 3 or 5 are selected then people can really have a think about a smaller number of photos.

Just an idea. I'm happy to stick with the current method as that seems to be people's prefence so far.

Btw, huge thanks to MHD for being so generous with his time for setting this up, not to mention Birdy's generosity with the prizes.
Regards

I too voted with Jonesy, but if it added undo pressure on MHD than I really would rather he didn't. As with Jonesy, I know nothing about web developing etc. I assume that MHD isn't going to let this thing become some out of control contest that sends him into a stressed out frenzy. No one wants that.

To add to this, this is my first photographic contest ever entered in, and this forum is the first place where I decided I needed to get off of my ass and post photos and get more feedback. I appreciate the work and contest MHD. IT's really opened things up for me.

There are some great photos on there. I think I already know who is going to win. THe mystery of who shot what is killing me. :o

I would think a voting system like.. Rate your top 5 would be a lot simpler than the current system.. that way if we see another doubling of entries in the next com we wont have to vote 50+ times just to make sure everything is even..

So..
Pic 1 gets 5 points..
Pic 13 gets 4 points..
Pic 21 gets 3 points..
Pic 35 gets 2 points..
Pic 71 gets 1 point..

Just my opinion..
