Portrait workshopHi all - at some stage, can some of the more experienced guys/girls here help us out with some portrait advice please.
Would love to have a workshop on this sometime. It seems that this area is one of my current weaknesses, and one I would like to improve. *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
I have actually been considering taking a course in Portrait / Family photography.
Obviously a workshop here would be much better It would be good to maybe run it over either two days or two weekends where the first day / weekend we cover technique, backgrounds etc... Then the second day / weekend we actually get our subjects (or some willing subjects) to test on. Just my thoughts... W00DY Andrew
Nikon D3 and lot's of Nikon stuff!!
I agree but lets do it in California. You all need vacations anyways!!!! Come enjoy the cold weather for a while!!!! Seriously though, any tips and tricks would be much appreciated, I am having a errible time shooting people now (????) I almost feel if I switch to portrait mode on the camera they will come out better......I'm going to go cry now

Don't do it!!! Not the dumb modes! arrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh! (no offence intended to anyone who uses the automatic settings!) hehe *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
First up, we need some models.

Gary Stark Nikon, Canon, Bronica .... stuff The people who want English to be the official language of the United States are uncomfortable with their leaders being fluent in it - US Pres. Bartlet
Go get some big Teddy bears for practice shooting first and get the real model after Birddog114

No, I prefer the real models. There's some interaction and communication that needs to occur, in order to get the model to pose as you want them to. Cant get that sort of response when talking with a teddy bear, I'm afraid. g.

get an battery operate teddy bear with a R/C I know! I know and I know!!!! Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
Don't believe that this model would need to be anything more or less than a forum member or relative... the aim would be to learn the basic mechanics rather than worrying whether the subject was magazine material.
Michael.
I will shoot nothing less than super models Andrew

What makes you think they'll be wearing underwear? Craig, March 20 is when we're anticipating having the Jenolan Caves trip. If you've not seen the caves, this would be a great opportunity for you to do so. g.

Sounds like fun - I'll have a closer look at that link Cheers, Craig
I tried this but the model/teddy wouldn't sign the 'Model Release Form', even after i filled it out for it. Steve.

Seeing as though you'll be staying at my place (? yes)...u can come with Bel and myself on Sunday morning...
Boy, I am sure jealous you guys have all these meets and such. I really wish we had a group like this here, so I can get useful tips. I am such a newbie, it's not even funny.
If any of you wanna come up here anytime soon for a meet I can take you ice fishing or we can play hockey or something.
With portraits IMO the best way is to grab a friend or two and practice different techniques. Daylight, flash a mix of both etc.
Then when you are ready you can ask Claudia Schiffer for a session Chris Chris

Chris,
I would rather skip the first few things you mentioned, what were they again, and go straight to 'Claudia Schiffer' . Cheers, Last edited by fozzie on Sat Jan 22, 2005 2:47 pm, edited 1 time in total.

When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
I heard that you can catch polar bears when you're ice fishing by using peas. Apparently you place the peas in a circle and when the polar bear comes up for a pea you kick him in the ice-hole. my karma just ran over your dogma
I am interested in this 'ice fishing'. Surely when you cook it up, it would melt. ??? Do you drink it instead???
