Brisbane shooting idea's

Postby llubnrut on Mon Feb 25, 2008 5:24 pm

In my line of work I can sometimes have a few hours to kill during the day. I take my camera gear with me each day but can't think of any decent places to take photos. Looking for places not too far out of the CBD. Today I went for a 5 K/M walk around Walk About Creek Wildlife Centre but the weather was not the best. Really need to go there early in the morning as well I guess.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Cheers Craig.

Try Botanical Gardens in Ann St or at Mt Coot-tha. Also Roma Street parklands.
Catch a ferry over to Kangaroo Point and have a walk around.
Then show us some results. :)

If you are in the CBD I would hazard a guess that there are lots of subjects within a few hundred metres of where you work. It is a question of seeing what you are looking at

If it was me I'd just be parking my butt on a bench in the mall and I bet you can find loads to shoot without even moving an inch.. or try up at anzac square (have they finished the renovations there yet?)... as there is often people there feeding the pigeons etc..

but maybe people shots aren't your thing? What kind of thing do you like to shoot?.. and do you have transport? :)

Thanks Bindii ... I do have transport. I always feel a little self conscious taking photos of people who I don't know and who don't know their photos are being taken. I guess I should get over that... I have been more into nature shots in the past but am limited in the CBD. I have taken a few shots in Roma Street Parklands mainly of Lillie's and the other flowers on display. I did manage to get a photo of a tiny tree frog there as well.

Anzac Square I think has been finished... might check it out tomorrow time permitting.

Thanks again.

Cute frog... and very well shot...

Have you tried the botanical gardens also.. I always seem to find something in there to shoot when I've had to fill in time in the city (so hate that place btw and aviod going there at all costs)..

and then there is Southbank parklands...

the musuem (I lurve taking shots there!!)..

the art gallery (right next to the musuem).. thats fun also...

And yeah it can be a bit scary when you first start taking shots of people... but if you find your self a nice bench somewhere and just start shooting you will find that 99% of the people wont even notice you there after a while... and it does get easier.. :)

Have a wander around the centre section of Teneriffe where the old stores used to be on the waterfront - mixture of old and the new down there...
