Just back from a wedding in New Zealand
(Hey Bindii, while they're backward, I did see a couple of internet cafes over there, and one or two moonscapes :) )

We have a 95th Birthday this weekend. Still we'll try to find time to get at least one apiece.

Don't sweat it. We're pretty relaxed in this comp. And you're not the first. I did the same thing on my first entry.

THe main reason we do it is so there are not too many pics in one thread. As it is, there is only one photo in the thread. No drama at all.

The only problem I have is that now there's no chance at all of my winning moonscape

Yeah, gee. Or my moonscape effort either....

I think we should ban him on the grounds that such an unreal shot should not be permitted as a first post!

My votes are:

Theme 1: ... moonscape
[kane] I think he'll only miss one vote - his own :)
Big Red, If [kane] hadn't entered, I would have given it to you.

Theme 2: ... train
Paulmac, though the other two contenders were close. I liked the energy in this one.

Theme 3: ... using flash
Paulmac. I love the concept and the execution, though I pity the poor model.
Shane, A difficult shot. I've tried and failed similar many times. Perhaps less ambient light so the fire is more pronounced and a snooted flash to light just each drinker fired from the direction of the fire
Tony, Just too dark for me. Were you on auto? the dark subject might have fooled the metering system. Perhaps a reflector on the other side too.

Theme 4: ... motorcycle
Paulmac (again :!: ) I loved the clean geometric abstract you turned the theme into. Shame about that goon in the reflection though :)
Tony, yours was similar in concept to Paul's, but I felt it was too cluttered. BR, It just lacked visual interest for me. Sorry.

I must say I was disappointed with the low turn-out this month. Not the regulars, I'm sure they all had a good excuse (I know PJS and Bindii did) but there were quite a few photos in the critique section over the weekend that could have been entered against several themes.

Anyway, thank you as always Big Red.
I will run Mid Month Madness in a couple of weeks.

Fair enough Tony. If that was your aim, you certainly achieved it. My monitor is a bit dark too. Even on full brightness, it read almost off the scale when I calibrate it.

Except that it would use an enormous amount of ink, it would be interesting to see it printed large.

My votes for what they are worth:

Moonscape: [kane] with Big Red a close second
Train: paulmac
Using flash: paulmac (great shot!)
motorcycle: Mr Darcy

There are some great entries, even if they are few. I remember thinking about what I was going to take for the themes, then the weekend just kind of disappeared among a lot of other jobs that had to be done and the shots did not actually eventuate. Next time (I tell myself again), next time!

Moonscape: [kane] with Big Red a close second. Mr Darcy, if you'd have entered your green cheese re-post instead, I would have voted for it!

Train: Mr Darcy. Nice lighting there.

Using flash: I like the high key result that Mr Darcy got.

Motorcycle: I'm going against the norm here and voting for Digitor's capture: http://dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=34145. Otherwise, Mr Darcy, for trying and nailing a new technique, and for getting harassed in the process!

Greg, you and I vote for each other too often! What's going on here?!

Train - I like the movement in Paulmac's, though I also think that Tony T and Mr Darcy did a great job too. :?

Flash - I love the idea of Paulmac's.

Motorbike - Paulmac's again. I love the colour streaks.

Paul,
I didn't want the vote to go on the green cheese as it wasn't my idea. It should have been, but I really don't think about PP even when it is appropriate, as here. So far my PP has just got up to adjusting WB & exposure, cropping and removing those nasty little rabbits. I really feel that photos should reflect reality, so my PP is always minimal. Once again the Green Cheese was a first for me.

Train: Thank you. I used the same lights I used for "flash", but I upped the power on the top flash through the brolly, and brought the side light right down so it just provided a few highlights. The brolly was about 3cm from the top of the train. I love the CLS lighting system!

THAT motorbike is one of the photos I felt could and should have been entered in this comp.

As for our cross voting, Don't let on to them that your login is really mine so I can vote for myself :D
I reality I suspect we have similar interests in all sorts of areas. E.g. While I have largely left it behind now, I spent many years (more than) dabbling in electronics. I still hanker after it now and again
