Mid Month Madness #4

Postby Mr Darcy on Wed Dec 10, 2008 6:07 am

This is a blatant copy of Big Red's Weekend Challenges.
I felt the need for an additional one as it is often difficult to fit the time in for either photographing or posting.

The aim is to pick 4 themes and everyone who wants to have a go at them can post up their pics in the image section by midnight after the closing time and put a link from their thread into this thread.
You don't have to attempt all themes. Just the ones you can manage.

Any DSLRusers Member who cares to can then vote for their favorite on the four themes and post up in this thread with any comments if they care to make them. You don't have to enter to vote.

The Themes are:
Theme 1: …motor
Theme 2: …white on white
Theme 3: …pain
Theme 4: …Movement

Voting lasts for 30 hours then I will tally up the votes and post up here.
If you win ... you get nothing but praise.
If you cheat ... you get nothing but Karma.
You cannot vote for your own pics.

Rules:
Pic must be taken in the Challenge Period by the entrant.
Any PP is allowed as the voters will say what is too much
Normal posting rules apply. In particular, Pic 800 on longest side.

You may take and post photos at any time from now till closing

Pics to be entered by midnight Wednesday 17-Dec-2008
Voting to be from 07:30 Thursday 18-Dec-2008 to midnight Friday 19-Dec-2008
Late entries will be accepted, but only until the first vote is cast.

Don't forget ... its just for fun so even if you didn't get a fantastic pic for a theme ... post it up anyway

As an extra challenge, you may try to get all four themes in a single photo. If you attempt this, post it in a separate thread. This will allow you to potentially get double votes.

DSLRUsers was down for an indeterminate time this morning, so I will extend the voting time about 12 hours.

Voting now closes 12Midday on Saturday (Or the time nearest that that I get the time to tally the votes)

My votes:

Theme 1: …motor
photoaffinity.

Theme 2: …white on white
pjs because I love the simplicity of both the shot and the approach (I think you have a dust bunny though)
photaffinity a very close second. I have tried doing something like this over the years, ever since I saw a similar shot in a TimeLife book as a kid. The one in the book showed a perfectly symmetrical crown. I have never been even this successful though.

Theme 3: …pain
Big Red. Been there done that. Looks obviously photshopped to me though.
I think mine was better, but I can't vote for me :P

Theme 4: …Movement
photoaffinity

Theme 2: …white on white
pjs. I like the way the cup dissolves into the bowl.

Theme 3: …pain
Mr Darcy. Well set up!

Theme 4: …Movement
Photoaffinity; a great concept. Big Red, I'm guessing it was a hurried snap, but you needed a lower shutter speed! Doh.

Well done all.

Pam & I manage to do it as a couple. We discuss concepts, then go out and shoot separately, then come back & discuss the merits of the photos to make the selection. For her photos, her opinion is always the last word; as mine is for mine.

As she doesn't handle technology as well as she might, I usually do any editing required (at her direction) and upload for her. I have just installed CaptureNX2 on her machine though, and set up a Flickr account, so hopefully she will become fully independent soon.

Theme 1: …motor
PhotoAffinity 5 votes

Well done all, though we may have to ban you in future PA. You are not supposed to come in and blitz the competition on your first go

I am thinking that the attendance of these has been dropping off of late. Should we give it a rest for a while?

Just so you know ...It was staged but definately no photoshop involved ... sometimes you have to suffer for your art!!
