Ted's and Fletcher's are the best to browse. Both on Pitt St, Ted's in the block north of Park, Fletchers in the block south of Park.

They are all good as long as you have a very fat wallet

They are good to browse and "touchy feely" especially Nikon on Broadway but the prices can be a bit extreme.

Rates like this:
1. Birddog
2. Ted's (they seem to let you play with the DSLR bodies... something Fletcher's don't do)
3. Fletchers (they have a few really good photographic people... but most of the sales personnel there are people who wouldn't know how to change a lens let alone sell one.)

The rest of them kind of fall into line because they're just retail commercial crap-houses. Paxton's has the honor of being the independent chain in NSW... except their prices suck and their selection is generally weak. Some of their stores do stock Leica, mind you, but if what I've seen on Bondi Junction's store is anything to go buy, they've modelled their stores to sell consumer crap.

George's goes right at the bottom.
Don't go here unless you need comic relief.

Thanks guys, i guess birddog isn't a walk in shop right?
Nnnnsic, do you mean georges as in george st?

Right. George's on George St.

Should only be used in extreme cases where you like to laugh at how bad the prices are and at how little the salespeople actually know (it's astonishingly small).

They're kind of comparable to Michael's in Melbourne's CBD, except I'd put George's lower.

It's just that bloody pathetic.

George's is where the slimebag ex-used car salespeople end up.

You could try Just Shoot which is in Darlinghurst and deals exclusively in Lomo cameras.

Gary, you are being generous, those are the guys not ethical enough to be used car salesmen

Unfortunately they are.

For used equipment I like going to foto riesel.

The guys at Fletchers industrial (Pitt Street)have always been nice to me.

As Glen said, I'm being generous.

They make Little Johnnie look ethical, and Lord Downer look intelligent.

hi i'm from sydney and i visited quite a bit of camera shops today

geroges - small crowded, prices are high
ccc - went to see the price of a CPL and they had one at 78 for a hoya, i said i was just looking at the price and he reduced it down to 50 in less than 30 sec >.> :o
teds - seems like quite a big camera shop, had the biggest tripod / monopod selection, prices are average
fletchers i didnt go to so i can't comment on btw all these shops are within 5 minutes of each other

I was lead into Teds on Pitt St the other day, and surprisingly they've changed their focus to be more inclusive of pro equipment/accessories than I'd previously remembered them to be.

Georges is really a joke - they price their stuff HIGHER than the manufacturer's recommended retail. I guess you go there to get quotes for your insurance company when your stuff gets nicked.

Yep. Like Tandy ... I only enter those stores for a bit of comedy relief.

If you want a real giggle, ask 'em something technical about the camera you're looking at.

To say that they're clueless would be being cruel to blondes.

Saw a D70 with Kit lens in Myers Melbourne yesterday.
Not D70s
Price $2295.00

They are kidding right! Or do I need new spectacles?

Can anyone recommend the best camera shop to buy Nikon D70s in Sydney?
(i.e. where I can find the best bargain!)

I've been to Teds, Camerahouse, Fletchers in the CBD - their price are about the same.

Some offer free camera bags, discount on memory cards etc whilst others offer exchange and refund if you are not satified with the camera within 30 days.

I'm not keen to buy online, happy to pay extra couple of bucks for the warranty and peace of mind :)

Technik,

Welcome - you might try European Camera Specialists on Victoriua Road at Drummoyne. A little way west of the CBD but expert advice and a comprehensive selection of new and used kit.

Happy shopping ....

Thanks Sheetshooter.

Has anyone tried Nikon on Broadway?

They advertise a few camera gears on ebay and offers the best price with 12 mths Nikon warranty.

Do they have a physical store where I can visit? If so, does anyone has the address?

Cheers
:)

I don't recommend Nikon On Broadway if only for some of the stories I've heard regarding them and the type of goods they sell.

They do, however, have a physical store.

I would recommend Nikon at Belmore, personally. 8)

I had a guy in there basically abuse me because I said I wanted an circular polariser filter and he only had ND's and he was trying to convince me they were exactly the same and to basically just shut up and buy one. I already had a set of ND's.
