NYE Fireworks

Postby Alpha_7 on Tue Dec 27, 2005 11:59 pm

Just wondering if anyone is planning on shooting the fireworks this year, if so did anyone want any company, or do people have a few good spots to shoot from ? I'm a little nervous taking my gear anywhere too crowded given the level of intoxication some will be under I don't think its too safe.

The first option for me is Jones Bay wharf where I work, but while it has a nice outlook at Balmain it really doesn't cut if for the Bridge due to the small viewing angle.

Anways, just wondering if anyone was keen ?

I will be shooting from Garden Island with an unimpeeded view of Fort Denison, but access to GI is with a pass and it's too late to get one for you, sorry.

Craig

which event were you thinking of? The early one for the kiddies, or the later midnight one?

If the later, I might be able to join in. The man wants to take the 3 eldest to see the fireworks, so if he is home in time, I could dump them all with him and shoot the midnight ones.

Will keep an eye on this thread.

Cheers
Deb

No worries Steve, I did leave the post rather late  Sounds like you have a good position, will look forward to you shots.

HappyFotographer... I'm leaning toward the late one... but if i'm around I'll try for both.

Update : I'm now got places to be for the late night show, but a friend and I will be shooting the kiddies 9pm show, from Jones Bay wharf. Less then ideal but it ensures a clear view unobstructed (and safe from hooligans).

Sorry Deb, this doesn't fit in you your plans, but I hope you still get out and get some shots.

Craig,

Balmain is worth a thought. The streets are closed to non-residents in the afternoon but you can still catch a bus in.

There are a few that are facing the Harbour Bridge and half of the firworks are basically just overhead

I had considered that Paul, but not knowing the area well I didn't want to get there to find I had nowhere to shoot from. Atleast at work I have plenty of room, even if the view isn't as nice as it could be...

Does anyone know if the 9pm fireworks actually use the Bridge, or is it only the Midnight show that does ?

Didn't see any fireworks on the 9pm show, but we had a good spot for the Balmain fireworks, could even seen the opera house ones and also a bit of darling harbour.

Switch on your TV, you can see the firework very comfy in the airconditioned room with bottles of Domain Chandon & fresh oysters & cooked prawns.

See on the TV is far better!
Why should you get out there in this hot, humidity weather in a cramped place, no cold champagne?, no fresh seafood and no access to forum.

Hell yeah, u can see who are not out partying, actually had to go pick the bin up it is blowing like there is no tomorrow outside, tell u what if i fire started would take some putting out. We are expecting storms so i wish it would just cool down and rain but not too much tomorrow still have 1 more day of SA Historic bike racing to go.

Except for the no access to forum, you could be describing my house Birddog

I watched it for a bit on tv, but gave up bored. My man who is in there with the 3 older ones told me it was quiet underwhelming......the kids didn't sound all that impressed either.

I like the first one thadeus.

Happy New Year everyone.

Ain't that the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Still .... "bread and circuses" .... it's been around a while. I guess it must work.

Thanks mudder.

Slim pickings from the night from me I am afraid, first ever fireworks shoot. You have to wish for a chopper in the air for a situation like this... and also to be there at midnight. On the news, and thaddeus' shots, it looked so much bigger and longer than the 9pm show.

A little more PP on number 2:

It was good to be in a family/non-alcohol area in terms of camera security.
