Buying A3+ Frames

Postby johndec on Thu Mar 02, 2006 9:54 pm

Now that I have an A3+ printer (thanks Birdy), I have a few pics that I would like to print to that size and hang around the loveshack

I don't want anything fancy (ie I'm cheap), just a basic frame big enough to hold a 13 x 19 pic. Any ideas? Where do all you R1800, etc owners get your frames? PS: Could make my own, but I'm also lazy as well as cheap !!!
PPS: Posted in Sydney forum because I'm looking for local options.

I have had my a3 printer for years and have only done one A3+ print.

I was too lazy and/or handyman challenged to make my own so took it to the local art joint and had them do it.

The advantage of that is that they have many different frame stock around to show as well as every Matt known to man. quite a few are skilled at recommending which matts may look best with different shots.

All depends on how many A3 prints you are planning on framing and how good the shots really are. It cost me 120 to get a a3+ shot professionally done. Not sure if that is a good deal or not but it had 3 matts. really looks the business on the wall and I didnt have to do anything other than hand it over and come back later with money.

I know framing kits arent prohibitively expensive and a few members here do their own. probably costs very little if you have the gear, but I wanted to be presented with options that I could just pick.

If I was doing my own, initially at least, I wouldnt have all sorts of different mattes laying around.
I guess though most of us would have a particular style of work which would suit a common style of frame and you would just have those materials laying around.

I am sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction in sydney though.

I too would like to know. (although I am doing a framing course at the moment).

I have found great difficulty trying to find pre-made frames with mats suitable for A3/A3+ size prints.

There seems to be quite an untapped market for this sort of product. Has anyone got any connections/ contacts ?

If someone in Sydney want to have a nice frame as people have seen at my base on all my prints recently, I can introduce you to a wholesaler and manufacturing framing not too far from my base.
I ordered from them and customized all the frame which I'm having.
They will offer you a very good price.
To do framing, if you do a lot then will be economical otherwise, it's more expensive, costly and unhappy + leave your free times to do something else.

Birddy,

I'm very interested in this.

I'm wanting to buy assembled frames, either with matt or without, that I can put the photos in.

Looking for 10+ at A3+ size.

Can you give me some more details please?

Yes! provided the day I'm in Sydney.

Just noticed someone else said IKEA. Yes to that. They have beautiful black timber 40x50 frames for just under $40. I bought a load of them recently for an exhibition and saved myself a fortune in framing costs.
