Hockey Recruitment

Postby Laurie on Fri Dec 08, 2006 3:20 pm

Hi All,

I am putting out an invitation to anyone who is very keen to play field hockey next season.

Some details include:

- Very low fees, lowest of any club.
- Season starting around April ending October, approximately 22 games per season.
- Small club. Only 2 teams (which is 22 players)
- Games played from Narellan & Sutherland to Homebush & Pennant Hills.
- Train at Kyeemagh RSL, directly opposite the airport (planes literally land on the field! can anyone say long exposures & tripods!)
- The club is in the last (4th) division of the competition but still play very competitive games. And for the last 2 years has fielded 2 teams (1st grade and 2nd grade)
- Have been to the Grand Final’s for at least the last 4-5 years and been a dominating club in the competition since its conception in the 70’s.
- I have been a member for 3 years, and after the first couple of weeks felt very comfortable and at home and well looked after.
- No prior hockey knowledge or skill required.
- If you plan on playing for the season, your own gear is essential including hockey stick, shoes, mouth guard, shin pads and shorts (plain red). Socks can be bought through the club. Shirts are provided on game day.
- There is a plan to organise a trail game and it would be ideal for anyone interested in playing next season to play in this. They can then decide whether they want to continue with the club or pass. Absolutely no pressure to stay with the club.
- You are asked to sign a contract stating that you will provide half the yearly fees and a nominated money amount before each game.
- A fantastic bunch of blokes who love to sit around, chat over a couple of beers.
- A very family orientated club with a couple of young ones attending games from week to week.

For those ladies out there who wish to play field hockey, please contact me also we have a sister club who might be looking for players and I can pass on your details.

If anyone is interested in any more details please don’t hesitate to contact via PM.

Regards
Laurie

Laurie,

IIRC, this is something that Oscar (Mick) may be interested in pursuing.

If he's not too arthritic these days, of course. :)

If my memory serves me well, I think Mick may have been, in his much younger days, somewhere close to Olympic representation.

Mick ... am I corrrect in this recollection?

Played with Kim in reps (I think) - he used to have light blonde hair back then.
Don't recall the other guys but I haven't played for a while now.
Have a few friends still playing reps for Sutho and Moorebank.

I used to (about 12 years ago) play with Matthew Phillips, Godfrey Phillips Son.

Kim still plays with us and is probably the oldest and fittest!
no chance youd come out of retirement then Mick? :P

I played against Godfrey when he played for Moorebank and was a rep player. A great player and a real nice guy.
No chance of me coming out of retirement. I'm sving the knees for a few more ski trips and my wife and I love to go away in our van every second weekend or so - even in the winter.
Maybe I'll catch a game and get a few shots one day.

Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Hi Laurie,
If it's okay with you I might try out in your trial game, I've been playing with Gordon North Sydney in 3rd grade (First Division) for the past 4 seasons with great success but there annual fee's are one of the highest in the comp and I'm looking at either a change or a break for the 07' season.
Training at Kyeemagh for training might be a problem due to my location, but we can discuss this at a later stage.
Let me know your thoughts. 8)

I don't know how to play, but I'm almost tempted to give it a try only if it helps me get off my arse.

It's a bit like soccer, but you have long sticks with which you can protect yourself. :)

Paul & Leigh, Thanks for the messages guys.
at the moment the trial game is only an idea for a rego day.
more than likely it will happen.
as for training it is completely optional.

I will keep you guys updated.
P.S Fees would be around the $400 mark.
