Gary

I will offer you a back up it you like. If you are hosting your own DNS, all you need to do is go to where you registered your domain name and just change your ns2 to ns1.emmx.com

You need to do this at least 24 hours before your site is going to go down. I will create access for you and you can upload your files early - except for your database which should be done at the last minute.

When your ns1 fails, it will default to ns2 (which will be ns1.emmx.com). Once your power comes back up, you can either change your ns2 or leave it as a back-up.

HTH

Cheers
Kristine

Kristine,
That's a great ideas to keep the site alive, at least a day, rather than let it off line.
Thanks Kristine, I'm sure Gary will look into it.

The problem isn't the ns services, but the hosting of the forums.

Here's my take on what I think needs to be done; we should take this tio email from here on in, btw ...

What I think we would need to do is logically move the site over to your facilities asap, setting up both sites so that they each use the same underlying physical SQL server, which would need to be hosted by you.

At the same time, we would set the ns to point to your IP for the forums site. Between now and then, any locally cached ns would be looking to the new addresses and served from there.

I'll need your IP, so I can set up a secondary forums site host within the ns. I can email you the code setup that I'm using plus the underlying MySQL tables backup.

Once you get that working inhouse, we can test it first using the secondary hosting name.

At some point I would need to resend you the latest SQL data, at the same time changing the internal reference so that my host starts using your SQL databases.

Finally, I would need to change the nameservers so that I swap the primary and secondary hosts, making yours the primary.

There may also be a couple of niggles wrt the locally hosted maiulserver that the system references.

We're back ...

But if you're reading this, then you already know that. :)

We almost had a backup system in place for today's outage but unfornately, time got the better of us wrt attending to some of the finer details of getting the pdataset across to Kristine.
