You have done well to restore the forum so quickly, given the circumstances. Please don't neglect the fact that you are on vacation having fun. We can survive until your return. TFF (Trevor)

Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
Yep; thanks
Oh yes, I've been having fun. New Orleans is a party town, and I've been having a ball. As my credit card, wallet, stomach and feet can all pay testament to. Thursday night, guests if the Wimberly Family Gospel Singers. In their home, for their rehearsal and red beans and rice. Friday, at Jazzfest, listening to them, then James Andrews, and then Chuck Leavell with Bonnie Bramblett. Last night, Tip's in the quarter as the guest of Amanda Shaw. Today, at the Fairgrounds, Steve Riley, CJ Chenier, and then the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars, who are a group of musos from other bands. Got to chat with one of the guys from the Iguanas, and interviewed Steve Riley and two of the players from the Allstars. Quiet night in the hotel now - trying to understand why apache is refusing to cooperate; just had dinner and a swim. Still have Instruments-a-comin' tomorrow night. So yes, we are having a ball, but I also need to find a laundrette. g.

Server Hard Disk CrashYep.
While I'm in New Orleans. And of course it crashed just after I went to bed for the night, meaning that it took a number of hours before I was even aware of it, then a couple more hours to properly diagnose the problem, and then decide what needed to be done. That's all in between trying to enjoy myself, and keep the other party that's with me from being not too unhappy with me spending hours on the web, fixing stuff. Fortunately I had a reasonable backup strategy in place, and so we';ve lost virtually nothing in terms of data and site source code. But I need to re-invoke those protocols on the new hdd to ensure that everything stays that way. As it happens, this is the only one of my sites that's up; apache's virtual hosts settings are refusing to acknowledge that I have other sites, which is leabving me frustrated and unimpressed. So, welcome back, all y'all. It's Sunday, and jazzfest awaits. g.

Re: Server Hard Disk CrashI know you are getting bored over there, so here is a little tidbit to flag your waning spirit...
If I log in and click the Remember me box, then go to recent topics, I get no messages (local time = 08:30AEST). This MAY be fair enough. Not sure how many messages have been posted in the recent past. However, if I click the "Last 5 days" option on the recent Topics tab, the board immediately logs me out, but displays the right messages. My normal way in to the board is to go to Recent Topics... Last 2 Days and I have always arrived logged out since the crash. As I use multiple computers it took a while to realise it was the board doing this to me and not me doing it to the board. NB I am coming in on .com, not .net. Greg

Re: Server Hard Disk CrashI'm having the same "logged out" issue, too. I have to log in at least once a day now whereas before the crash I would stay logged in for weeks.
Re: Server Hard Disk CrashSame for me. I have to log in every time I visit plus the recent topics is not working as it should.

Re: Server Hard Disk CrashDitto - I've tried clicking the link at the bottom to "Delete all board cookies" and I've tried deleting all my cookies for this domain manually from my browser but I can't get it to auto login for me with each visit - I have to go and click the Login button and click submit (my browser remembers the username/pass and populates the fields).
I've previously run a phpbb forum before and I do remember this issue happening once when we did a forum software upgrade and I did fix it at the time (many years ago) but can't remember what the fix was D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
Landed just after 6 this morning; empty flight (200 empty seats) and first flight in this morning; through customs and immigration very quickly; home just after 7. I've spent hours on this, and I think I've fixed it with a nasty hack. Please let me know if it's now working again. The underlying issue is one of version shock: changes in php 5.3 killed phpbb's session handling. I have a test version working in the latest phpbb3 version, but it has no add-ons. g.

Re: Server Hard Disk CrashIt has taken a turn for the worse.....if I use Chrome (normal mode) I get stuck in an endless loop of login > not logged in board index page or (if I login to try to post) login > login. This means the forum is totally useless to me.
However, when I switch to Chrome (Incognito Mode) I stay logged in, but auto-login does not work. I have tried clearing all board cookies with no effect. Cameron

I've just installed Chrome (browser) onto my Win 7 64 bit box, and it seems to be working ok for me. Anyone else seeing what Cameron is seeing? g.

Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
Me - exactly... but I couldn't log in to tell anyone - catch 22 - I sent an email to Suren to tell someone for me Thanks Cam for the tip on using incognito mode to actually get logged in long enough to post, etc I can see that when I try to login - I get the page where it says that I successfully logged in but then I get redirected back to the forum home page logged out - I can also see I did login because if I then scroll down the page I appear in the list of logged in users. I also tried removing all forum cookies, etc to no avail D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

How about using Firefox or Opera to see if the issue persists there? What OS and version, and version of Chrome are you both using? g.

Re: Server Hard Disk Crashi am also getting caught up in the loggged in--not logged in loop when trying to get connect to dslr.com.
Have just tried to log in on dslr.net and it seems to be working ok. I'm using IE8 on Win XP. JED

Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
I'm unable to replicate this either. IE8/FF on my Win XP box at the office. Have you tried a different browser? Cleared cookies etc? The .com site is the primary site, and it's where everything should be working properly. I will probably try to find some time to upgrade to 3.0.10 over the next two weeks or so; the issue remains the add-ons that we have; I need to work out how to integrate those into the baseline install. g.

Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
Bruce, Vista??? You must be the only one. Seriously though, message ?? I've not seen any PM or email from you thus far, but that could also be because we are effectively running on a new server, and I still need to bring it fully up to spec. There is a mail server installed, but I've yet to find time to see how it's configured. I am having issues wil ssh and FTP updates for my Wordpress sites though, so I know that the config is nowhere near right as yet. All, For updating the forum software, I've also been looking at portal stuff; the original portal that we used is no longer supported, and the primary one available doesn't look that good in my eyes, nor does it seem to support some of the other features that I want, so that one's unlikely to selected ... I have two others that I shall be looking at over the next few days so please stay tuned to this thread. And FWIW, the semi-auto update of phpbb3 doesn't seem to be working for me either. Wen it comes to the point of creating the new combined source code repository, it just dies. Two computers, four browsers all yield the same non-result, so I will have to go with a brand new codebase plus the add-ons. Or Adonis if the iPad's auto-correct feature is to be believed. g.

Re: Server Hard Disk CrashJust read this posted My Mac is doing the login run around has been for days, so rev up the PC windows 7 with explorer so its fine. so my problem is Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 with safari
Re: Server Hard Disk CrashI'll add my voice to the fray... the whole login issues is occurring on my ie9/win7 setup but appears ok in chrome.
As i've not been to the site for a while now in chrome it seems likely to be a cookie or similar issue as most of us are experiencing the problem across a range of setups including what's work for me currently. Photography is not a crime, but perhaps my abuse of artistic license is?
Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
Tony, I am running MacOSX Lion 10.7.4 with Safari and have no problems at all. Also AOK with Firefox. Chris

Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
I have updated the Mac to 10.7.4 still the same suggests? I do I need to move to Sydney
Re: Server Hard Disk Crash
+1 ... however I may have just fixed my problem - will have to see when I try again next time - at least after logging in it has let me remain logged in. I'm using Chrome on Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4 - I first went to the bottom of the board and clicked the "Delete all board cookies" link - I then went into Chrome Settings (Spanner Icon -> Settings) - then to Under the Hood TAB - then under Privacy click "Content Settings..." - then under Cookies click "All Cookies and Site Data..." - then in the Search Cookies box typed "dslr" - once the various dslrusers cookies were displayed I clicked "Remove All" Update: Just quit chrome and came back to the site and auto logged in no problems (so far )...
