Picture Of The Week - November 29, 2005

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

Picture Of The Week - November 29, 2005

Postby Nnnnsic on Tue Nov 29, 2005 3:12 am

Well, this has been one hard week to choose a POTW... so many choices... keep 'em coming (so I'm not the only one who has a bloody hard time picking one!!!).

However, this week, I bestow the honour of Picture Of The Week onto Rokkstar (Matt) with his self-portrait from this week:

Image

Whilst I think that this could look great in black and white, it works wonderfully in colour and is a well composed, well lit, and confronting image of someone exploring the cameras exploration of himself.

I think it's a great shot, personally.

Great work, Matt. :)

Congrats Rokkstar :!: :!: :!:

As I said at the mini meet I think you have done very well with your lighting. With those abilities I would strongly encourage you to pursue further and as you have done keep an open mind and let your creativity flow.

Now.........I think you can change that AVATAR :!: :!: :!:

I think we should have a vote/revolt

regards,

Paul

Great shot Matt, I think it has been the photographer's relationship with
the subject that has taken this shot to another level.

Seriously, excellent work, and another fine choice from Leigh.

Well, firstly, let me apologise for having my mug confronting everyone every time they visit the site.

It's a great honour to be chosen for this when I look at all the images that have been posted this week. Many thanks.

Matt

Your self consciousness probably stops you from trully appreciating how good an image this one is. I've said most of what I think about this image in the original thread and to you in person, but I'd like to echo somehting someone else has said (Leigh I think) and that is that the quality of both this and the suit images of yourself shows that you should pursue a set of self portrait shots. While you probably can't see it you really DO make an interesting subject and you will certainly have the subject on hand whenever the creative urge takes you. You're on your way too since you already have thos e old pics you took brushing your teeth etc a while back. PS The pic of you that Matt K took is also interesting

I really liked this photo when I saw it. I agree though with the comments that followed re cropping a bit higher up.

I think Matt is too critical of his looks - I think the look is great as it's seriously thought-provoking. My only criticism (if any at all) is that I think his facial hair should have been a little shorter.

I don't think Matt will be a fashion model but certainly an interesting subject for photos.

Re the deer-in-headlights concerns - I like the look in this case. It's quite confronting and adds interest.

I like what you're trying to achieve Matt. While out on the weekend I saw a moody side lit shot of David Beckham advertising his new aftershave and I thought about what you have been upto. This is only a low res image but if you're out and about at the major shops like Myers, David Jones or the equivalents in Sydney then you should see it in large print at the perfume/aftershave area.

It's like looking in a mirror Darryl

I guess that style of shot is what I was aiming for. That moody, strong light shoot - not your standard portrait shot - like you see in the pages of the fashion mags. Still learning, and trying out different lighting techniques - lots of fun.

The montage for the parfume add is really cool too! 8)
