POTW for 23rd Nov., 2010...

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW for 23rd Nov., 2010...

I would like to thank Cameron (aim54x) for his contribution as Guest Selector.

When I received that PM asking me to be a guest selector for POTW I was once again filled with excitement and dread; it is a real privilege to be given the task, but at the same time the memories of the difficulty of the task creeps into the mind.
I would like to thank Cameron (aim54x) for accepting Guest Selector for this week.

(Un)fortunately there were a large number of worthy images over the last week making the task at hand far from easy.

Biggerry's images of the resort in Thailand were both striking and intriguing with a great demonstration of how HDR should be done.

The Foto Fanatic's series of Central Otago really struck out to me. I have always wanted to head over to NZ and these images are simple yet stunning.

Bob G also gets a mention with Stephan and Lars, although I am not normally a portrait person, I could not help but be drawn to this image. The B & W treatment is nicely done, and although there is a slight over exposure on the skin it all works.

However, I could not go past Div's Koko Black. This image is a great example of street photography with multiple layers, great use of DOF and tones. But most importantly it is a photo that grabs you with both hands and keeps you staring for long enough to explore the frame.

Oh wow thanks guys!

I have been a member of the forum for quite a few years and have been watching the many beautiful photos produced by the other forum members. Especially in POTW!

To now give something back and get an image in POTW (especially amongst such other great photos) is a great honor!

Thanks guys its much appreciated

I like the look of the subject to the camera and despite being
in the middle of the picture, all the black that surrounds him
adds to create insterest. Congratulations!
