POTW 5 Sep 12

Postby stubbsy on Tue Sep 04, 2012 7:44 pm

This week as picture of the week I've chosen a fine black and white by ozimax. It's a lovely natural candid and greatly benefits from the black and white treatment which gives a timeless quality to the image. The original post is HERE and I sure as hell hope Robyn (aka Mrs Ozimax) doesn't frequent the forum given she's now made it to the front page :-)

Thanks Stubbsy, but strike me pink, I'm in trouble now.

Thankfully Robyn is a classic luddite, having zero interest in forums of any kind, preferring books and gardening. :)

Thanks all for the kind words, and yes Piro, the lighting was spectacular, coming through a hotel window in Castle Hill last Monday morning. (Yes, we were in the big smoke for a few days).

In reality, portrait photography is looking for, (or trying to replicate), great light, then getting the expression right. Large windows provide, I think, the best diffused light anywhere, although I do have a secret spot in Coffs Harbour that gives wonderful light almost any time of day. (If ever anyone is coming through Coffs, let me know and I will gladly divulge the secret!:))

What appeals to me in this image are the subtle tones. The graduation from dark to light is rendered perfectly and seemingly noise-free in the darkest areas too.
