POTW 25th Nov to 2nd Dec 2013

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW 25th Nov to 2nd Dec 2013

Postby biggerry on Tue Dec 03, 2013 8:01 am

This weeks POTW is brought to you from Michael aka Photohiker

which btw was a love hate choice for him since it was not taken with a fuji ;) but not surprising since Rod's snail images were quite nice and a standout for the week. Thanks for the selection Michael.

Also, what Rod did not tell you about his snail pictures is that he ate them afterwards ;) with a nice garlic sauce. I think that counts as removing from a national park :rotfl2: anyway, enough jest

My choice for the POTW is the second one, the snail takes centre stage and shows off it's delightful shell.

Reading the post, Rodney indicates that these were taken on a sunny day, but with the application of a 'tri-grip diffuser' (whatever that is, I need one), he has managed to place the mini forest in filtered soft light just as you would find around the floor of a rainforest on an overcast day and captured four magic moments.

The whole series were outstanding and any of these pics would have been a great choice. Congratulations all round.

Mmmm tasty - remember it only counts as removal if they are still alive man :)

Thanks Michael and Gerry

NB: the tri-grip is just a diffuser (white translucent material which softens the light - makes it the light source) which is triangle shaped instead of round and has a nice handle to hold it in one hand at one of the triangle points.

No picture with Fuji = no POTW gong.

....just kidding!

Well done Michael, for photography at snail's pace!
