Sorry Patrick, it seems I just gave your camera to Russell. I will replace the battery tommorow, should I try another shot?

I am thinking the shutter should have closed so another shot shouldn't be required.

Cool. :D

Has anyone seen Foonji in the last couple of days?

Although it's too late to check now, a quick look up the throat of the camera would ascertain that. I think you can still remove the lens even with the camera like that. Moving the dial to M90 was the correct action, however.

It sounds to me as if the exposure may have been set for a more extended time. If this occurs, and you're not expecting it, then what you've seen is exactly what would happen.

A couple of quick checks for you: camera dial set to A, lens mounted and cap removed: put the camera to your eye, pop the film wind lever to its open-at-rest position. In the viewfinder, the green needle should be on A, the black needle should be visible, and moving up and down the indicated shutter speeds as you move the camera through different scenes. If this happens, then the battery should be fine.

Apart from M90, which is a mechanical shutter speed, the camera should not function with a flat battery.

The batteries were new when I sent it in January however, it is feasible that the meter had been left on at times over the last 3 months.

The meter should turn itself off after 16 seconds, IIRC, even when the film winder is left standing proud, precisely to prevent the battery draining. Lightly pressing the shutter release turns it back on.

This is Patrick's call, but my inclination would be, in order to expedite matters, to bypass Foonji and move on to the next person. The two days timeframe was agreed to by all participants way back when, and It's disappointing for all to see it being ignored.

Exposure was set at 125 @f11, all manually set. This camera has nearly identical controls to my old Ricoh xr2s so the layout was familar and the problem was also familar. A low battery would still operate the meter with the black needle moving in the viewfinder as you described but not allowing the mirror to drop after the shot. Anyway, I will replace the battery and forward the camera on as soon as I hear from Foonji.

Craig, if you don't hear from Foonji by early afternoon today, can you send it on to the next person. I would suggest PM'ing that person not to get their details just in case. This way, the camera should get to the next person by tomorrow so they have the weekend to take their shot.

Hi Craig

Can you confirm that you sent the camera via express or registered post to Geoff as he has not received it yet.

Original rules for FE camera wrote:3. Only Express or Registered post can be used, and the person shipping the camera each time pays for postage (if you don't want to pay, that's fine, you just can't participate).

Craig sent it to me via registered post on Thursday. It's understandable to be frustrated but this time it's no one's fault except Aus Post.

I think Geoff is saying that there is no indication that the camera has been delivered.

I presume it was sent to the correct address? Aust Post don't have a stellar reputation for sending the items to the correct address.

I don't believe you have to sign for Express Post items. They will just deliver them.

I know with our "Post Office" they frequently forget to leave a card in our PO Box and we have to ask them if they have a package for us.

Good News! I now have the FE!
I hope to get out this afternoon and take a shot and forward it on to the next person TODAY.
AUS POST had incorrectly sorted it and had put the notification card in the wrong PO BOX...grrrr.

Geoff.

I asked about that Patrick - it was actually delivered to the PO the next day, but not to the correct person. I guess if you wanted to argue the point with them you could, but I was in a hurry and just wanted to get out of there.

Paul's next..yes?

Image taken and the FE is back in the postal system on it's way to Paul.
Reference no. PN6117203.
He should receive it tomorrow, Wed April 22nd.
I think I took the 19th exposure and did not wind it on after pressing the shutter release.

What did you set the white balance at? :biglaugh:

Thanks for the prompt hand-pass.

Alicia just emailed me saying she found a roll of film at home with "FE for DSLRUsers project" on it - you reckon I should have loaded that into the camera? Wouldn't y'all love that? :biglaugh:

Whenever I get an express post delivery, they deliver the little card, without ever trying to deliver the bloody item! The card says I can pick the item up at the l;ocal PO ... after 4-bloody-30!

That's express non-delivery, Bondi style.

You can't just lay it on the Brisvegans - the Melbournites played a hand.

But, that said, accepting that this still has to go via Wendell, we are nearing the end, and we can move on from any discussions about tardiness and look forward to seeing the results. Just hope I get it back before Junior 2.0 makes a showing so I will time to develop and have scanned (the film, that is).
