Where have to focussing lights gone?

Postby Mitchell on Sun Jul 27, 2008 11:47 pm

Hi All
I have a 30D.
The red focus points in the view finder used to light up when autofocus successfully locked in. Now they don't.
When I select one of the focus points it flashes red, but then when I actually go to take a photo - nothing. I know they are still working as the lens focuses on the correct point when I select it, it just doesn't light up when I half press to focus.
Any ideas?
Cheers

I had a quick search on google and turned up nothing... Hmm sounds very irritating...Knowing you though, it may be time to upgrade

I dont know much about canons, but in the menu system of mine allows me to turn the focus lights off.
Also with mine if I use older M-series lenses I loose all but the centre focus light. Could your problem be as simple as changing your lens?

Have you changed AF mode recently?
The behaviour of the focus points lighting up changes for One Shot vs. AI Servo, and also when you've got all points selected.
I'm guessing you're in AI Servo now (but I haven't had a 30D for a while now so can't check for sure).

That is correct - you must be in servo mode otherwise the lights will be there..

Thanks for the comments-

- No lights with either the 24-70 or 70-200, (therefore I think it is a body problem)
- I've searched the menu 5 times looking for an option to turn them on/off but it just isn't there
- No lights in either one shot or servo modes

I'm a bit stumped. I think Suren may be on the right track - time for a 5D. Anyone interested in a pre-loved non red light flashing 30D?

Cheers
