Four pics from my US$25,000 camera

Postby AJ4WD on Sun May 10, 2009 11:50 pm

Yep, a camera that cost US$25,000 in 1999 that I picked up on ebay for about 200 bucks :D
Thought a few here in the Canon zone would like this blast from the past.

Canon D2000 and 430EX2 flash. Lens is a Canon 50F1.4
All pics are resized only and converted to jpegs.

I shot these in Program mode because I havent bothered to dive into optimising the Cfns or Pfns let alone shoot a hundred test shots to see what manual settings work. I reckon they came up pretty good for a 10year old 2mpx camera without any PP done.
For those that dont know - the D2000 is a 1N Canon pro film SLR that Kodak grafted a digital back onto. It was the first dSLR to have an LCD for reviewing pics in the camera.

Nice buy!

Does the durability of this camera compare to the flagship models these days? 1D and D3x etc? I wonder whether the modern counterparts will last this long?

I would say that it's better, given what the source camera for this was.

However, the primary issue with these bodies was, IIRC, the quality of the firmware etc, which is why neither this, nor its successors, nor any of the Nikon equivalents, were commercially successful.

Buying this body for the price quoted, and using it as a working "museum" piece, is absolutely a great way enjoy such a camera.

That would be the Kodak DCS system, based on the body of a Nikon F5 and Kodak digital sensor, I believe. Still quite expensive on ebay, if I recall correctly.

I love the car, one of hte few American cars that can be considered to be a true supercar! Great shots! If only shooting full size cars was as easy to light.

If you do then I am soo coming over to have a look at that car....BTW you should put a location (suburb, city) into your profile, it is a requirement of membership, I would do it before Gary has a go at you.
