Wide angle lens for D70

Postby Flyer on Sat Aug 28, 2004 9:34 pm

Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting a wide angle lens.
Something equivalent to 18-20 mm in 35mm.
The lenses I am considering are Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 or Nikon 12-24mm f4G ED-IF AFS
Anyone has one of them?
Comments?
Any other alternatives?

thanks

Arek

Sigma 15-30 f3.5-4.5. If 15mm is wide enough for ya. It's a big mofo of a lens (sized close to a 28-70/2.8), with a non-removable lens shade.

Hi Flyer,
I have one Nikkor 12-24DX, but the following link will bring you more ideas about the two lenses

Thanks for your replies guys.
Nikon looks great, but its price isn't. :(
Also not suitable for full frame cameras.
Sigma is cheaper, can be used on FF cameras, but there seems to be some quality issues...
Decisions, decisions...

This may not be about wide angle but I have a comment to make re Sigma. I have the D70 kit lens (17-80 DX) and a Sigma 55-200 DC. I was not happy with the D70 as I believed that I had a back focus problem. But I have since found out that it is not a problem with the D70 but with the 17-80 DX! The Sigma lens is absolutely pin sharp and focusses brilliantly but I am still having problems with the Nikon lens. I will be getting the new Sigma 105 macro next week simply because I am so pleased with the 55-200.

Lens problem

Postby bago100 on Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:41 am

Sirhc

Do you know whether the backfocus problem is endemic to all kit lenses, or whether it is just a problem with the particular lens that came with your camera?

Thanks

Graham

I know mine seems OK 8)

I think it was a problem that did exist at the start of the D70 revolution but it’s gone now IMO.

Cheers
