Fuji X Pro 1 firmware update 3.10 now available

Postby ozimax on Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:30 pm

Just downloaded and installed latest update for Fuji XP1. It can be found here:

http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/xpro1/index.html

Everything seems to be working well. The #1 benefit that I can see is the ability to set minimum shutter speed while in Auto ISO mode. (I know, it should have been there from the start, but better late than never.)

Good on you Mr Fujiama.

Aso, I think it is Fuji-onda-awasaki-ony. :biglaugh:

In all seriousness, I once met a man at a meeting (in Hokkaido) whose name was Hitachi. Unfortunately all evening long I forgot his name and kept calling him Toshiba. He just smiled.

Ok... so now that the new firmware for the x-e1 is available I've loaded it up to see how it goes.
All generally seems ok... the enhancements work as described on the tin although for the most part not things that were absolute show stoppers for me anyway.

However... for some reason they have created a new showstopper for me...

I was starting to use the x-e1 for the occasional location shoot with a studio strobe and associated wireless trigger... (this trigger uses mains power at the strobe, saving me lots of battery pain).
So a shoot that required some lugging of gear could be slimmed down with a lighter camera at least.
This was working fine until I loaded the new firmware.

I've double checked that it's all working ok with my other cam and done a thorough walkthrough the x-e1 menus to confirm that there's no logical setting that might be impacting this.
Next step will be to regress the firmware I guess (assuming the camera allows that) and if it's back to working ok then send a note to Fuji to find out what they've done !!!

Hope you can get that resolved. I'm curious to see their response.

MJ, is it even possible to wind back the firmware?

Mmmm.... ok... I'm official a donkey...

In the process of upgrading the firmware I've managed to turn the x-e1 into 'silent mode'.
I think because it is essentially the same key combo used for it... at least that's my excuse.

Holding down the disp/back key for a couple of secs turns the camera to silent mode (and for some reason that includes turning the flash off???).
Holding the same key whilst turning the camera on will put it in firmware update mode.

Bottom line is once I turned the silent mode back off the flash trigger and all works fine and dandy again phew.

Just one of the down sides of having more electronic gizmos in these things... no obvious switch or dial to check.

Not a donkey if you can work out why something doesn't work. Exercise of logic is a high order brain function.

Ah, now that makes sense. I know both these button functions but did not tie them together. Thanks for the heads-up MJ.

As an aside, the quick "silent" mode is sensational at times.
