New Fuji X series 56mm F1.2 lens

Postby ozimax on Tue Jan 07, 2014 11:14 am

Fuji has formerly announced the introduction of it's new 56mm F1.2 portrait lens. Should be a cracker, but waiting to see if we get price gouged down under. It is listed at $999 USD.

Not available until next month.

I should have an X-E2 turning up today with 14mm f2.8, 35mm f1.4 and 55-220mm f3.5-4.8 (I already have an X100s). I'm off to India for three weeks in February and wanted something lighter and less conspicuous than my full-frame Nikon system. I would probably have gone for the 56mm f1.2 had it been available instead of the 55-200mm. Probably I'll end up with both.

Fuji also have Arca-Swiss L-Brackets coming out for the X-Pro1 and X-E2 in February.

AND they allow access to the battery and SD card!

They are just camera plates with grip, not L Brackets though. nice move by Fuji, continuous improvement...

Ah, you're right. I'll get an RRS one then. I already have one for the X100s and they have the appropriate holes.

There are a couple of alternatives:

Rainbow Imaging ebay version

JLM Grip and LPLate via fujixforum

Both have the basic requirements: Arca compatible plate and L section, Grip, Battery door access. XPro and XE versions.

I think there is another chinese one, but can't remember where I saw it.

Anyone care to guess the PP price? I will say $1399.

I'd guess $999 from HK, say E-Infinity where I purchased my camera and lenses.

Thanks very much for that. I'm tempted by the Rainbow imaging one because it's much cheaper than RRS and it's the sort of thing that the Chinese are likely to do well. I've sent off an enquiry to ask about their expedited postage rates. I found lots of other Chinese ones on EBay for the X-Pro1 but not for the E-E2.

I also found Hejnar Photo though without the grip.

Fuji produced a series of good product last year. Hope this would be the same level.

nice lens for a nice price. it is curious that lumix also announced a 42.5/1.2 aswell for $1599. i guess the leica branding influenced the price, and probably the fact that its stabilized aswell. but i find it a difficult proposition to swallow that a m4/3 85/1.2 would be $600 more expensive than a fuji 85/1.2.

I'd like to see say a 120mm f2. Failing that, the 50-140mm f2.8 just announced will probably turn out to be a better proposition than the 55-200mm f3.5-4.8.
