Took a bit of a wander into the city after work yesterday... some interesting sights, and a conversation with a Sydney Harbour Foreshore Officer...

Looks like a war zone without the collateral damage Trent. There is something very sinister about those loudspeakers - reminiscent of the soviet bloc and pre-war Germany.

I just hope that this security bullshit
disappears quickly and doesn't come back !
When we are scared of threats and start to display security measures like this - we have lost the war on terrorism - we have succumbed to the threat.
Terrorrism is there to terrorise - are we terrorised ?

Cheers,
CD

Interesting set of images -- we'll look back on them in 10-20 years and either wonder about the cynical fearmongering of this era's politicians...or we'll be in lockdown all the time, and the majority of people will be conditioned not only to believe that it is necessary, but that arguing against it is treason -- the seeds of that are in the political debate right now.

Having said all that, I reckon those speakers are perfect for broadcasting "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength". Unfortunately, whoever decided to put them up clearly decided to whack them hard with the ugly stick. I doubt if Sydneysiders will let them stay in place for long.

Sydney looks a lot like Londonderry, Ireland. It just needs a bit more barbed wire. The photos makes me glad I don't live there.
