Picture Of The Week - November 29, 2005Well, this has been one hard week to choose a POTW... so many choices... keep 'em coming (so I'm not the only one who has a bloody hard time picking one!!!).
However, this week, I bestow the honour of Picture Of The Week onto Rokkstar (Matt) with his self-portrait from this week: Whilst I think that this could look great in black and white, it works wonderfully in colour and is a well composed, well lit, and confronting image of someone exploring the cameras exploration of himself. I think it's a great shot, personally. Great work, Matt. Original thread here. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Congrats Rokkstar
As I said at the mini meet I think you have done very well with your lighting. With those abilities I would strongly encourage you to pursue further and as you have done keep an open mind and let your creativity flow. Now.........I think you can change that AVATAR I think we should have a vote/revolt regards, Paul
Well done to both Leigh for the choice and more so for Matt for being Model, director and photographer I agree with Dingo perhaps this can be your new avatar... it has a little hoffseque feel to it. Keep them coming!
Well done Matt and a great choice Leigh!
As Leigh has already said there were some brilliant entries this last week and it must have been a very tough decision! Keep up the great work Matt, I for one look forward to more of your creativity!! Geoff

Great shot Matt, I think it has been the photographer's relationship with
the subject that has taken this shot to another level. Seriously, excellent work, and another fine choice from Leigh. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Well, firstly, let me apologise for having my mug confronting everyone every time they visit the site.
It's a great honour to be chosen for this when I look at all the images that have been posted this week. Many thanks. Matt
Yes Matt - you have the presitigious role of being the 'face' of DSLRusers.net for a week . Enjoy the fame!! Geoff

Your self consciousness probably stops you from trully appreciating how good an image this one is. I've said most of what I think about this image in the original thread and to you in person, but I'd like to echo somehting someone else has said (Leigh I think) and that is that the quality of both this and the suit images of yourself shows that you should pursue a set of self portrait shots. While you probably can't see it you really DO make an interesting subject and you will certainly have the subject on hand whenever the creative urge takes you. You're on your way too since you already have thos e old pics you took brushing your teeth etc a while back. PS The pic of you that Matt K took is also interesting Peter

It's all your fault for taking such a fine picture! g.

Just as a quick question are any of these recent POTW's included in the POTY ??? Or will they be included in next years ?
One of the best stylish pics choosen for picture of the week, I am proud to respond to this one
Excellent work to both of ya Leigh you do have taste.
Next years... I've already started collecting them so I don't have to chase any up like I did this year.

Excellent! I'll place my vote shortly, once I'm sure I've removed all traces of this Sober Worm a users PC... nasty little blighter sent over a 4gb worth of spam.
I really liked this photo when I saw it. I agree though with the comments that followed re cropping a bit higher up.
I think Matt is too critical of his looks - I think the look is great as it's seriously thought-provoking. My only criticism (if any at all) is that I think his facial hair should have been a little shorter. I don't think Matt will be a fashion model but certainly an interesting subject for photos. Re the deer-in-headlights concerns - I like the look in this case. It's quite confronting and adds interest. Regards, Paul Vandenberg

Well done HoffStarrrrrr,
You look like a Worlock trying to put us all under your spell. It worked ! Mic.
I like what you're trying to achieve Matt. While out on the weekend I saw a moody side lit shot of David Beckham advertising his new aftershave and I thought about what you have been upto. This is only a low res image but if you're out and about at the major shops like Myers, David Jones or the equivalents in Sydney then you should see it in large print at the perfume/aftershave area.

I guess that style of shot is what I was aiming for. That moody, strong light shoot - not your standard portrait shot - like you see in the pages of the fashion mags. Still learning, and trying out different lighting techniques - lots of fun. Matt

The more I look at it, the more I think you were very brave... It's a great photo though...
I admire your attention to detail in combing your chest-rug so fastidiously Seriously Matt, you have a striking and very photogenic face... Keep up the good work... Cheers, John

Congrats Rokkstar, I'm glad your photo has been selected for POTW because I hadn't seen the original thread and I would have miss this great portrait (top lighting really).
The montage for the parfume add is really cool too! Link.
