I'm thinking of going to Sydney...

Postby Bindii on Wed Sep 05, 2007 1:33 pm

in November to meet up with some friends of mine from another forum... they are making the trip from Liverpool in the UK and well Sydney is the closest city to me that they will be in... at this stage I shall be there from Sat 24th Nov to Monday 26th... I'm going to try and plan it so that I will have Sunday and Monday to myself to get out there and explore some of the sights...my friends are here to visit family so I dont want to intrude too much on their time... I think I am going to book a place at Sofitel ( Wentworth - thats in the city right?) ...my friends are staying in the outer suburbs somewhere so I will hire a car to get around in...

can anyone suggest a couple of good places to explore with my camera while I am there... I haven't been to Sydney since I was a child ... and that was many moons ago..lol... so I have no idea where what is etc..

Thanks in advance... :)

Hmm you have lots of options, what sort of stuff where you interested in ?

You've got the beaches, got the Ferries (popular with some of us on the forum), Botanic Gardens, Aquarium, Darling Harbour, the little island out near La Perouse (can't remember the name). Waston's Bay and the heads.

Got anything in mind ?

Sue,

Maybe someone could organise a DSLRUsers meet. We have a few legs of the Sydney Harbour walk to do.

Edit: can you bring Amanda, too? :P

Craig,

Bare Island - one of my usual dive spots.

Yes, the Sofitel Wentworth is right in the CBD (Circular Quay end, easy walking distance).

I wouldn't recommend staying there this week though :D :P

You'll have plenty of places within walking distance from the Wentworth, and most touristy sights are easily accessible by public transport (bus, ferry and train all depart from circular quay).

If you're looking at hiring a car, the Wentworth will most likely charge a garage fee on your hotel room ($25-30 night seems to be the going rate).

What sort of thing do you want to visit/photograph? The tourist highlights? street? architecture? harbour?

I'm sure we can get a meet together :D

Might be a good idea to meet up with some of the local forum members and get a guided tour?

G'day from gate F37 in SIA.

A minimeet sounds like the go.

Maybe even our Chrissie dinner?

Let's do some detailed talking when I'm back in APECtown next week.

A mini meet sounds great.. it would be a good chance to meet some of the members from down that way... the question is whether you guys are ready to meet me... *grins*

I hadn't really thought about what kind of stuff I wanted to shoot... anything really.. I enjoy all kinds of togging and I'm easily pleased... well when it comes to what I want to photograph that is... ;)

and yeah the sofitel charges from $36 a day for parking *groans* but I figure thats gotta be better than being stranded and stuff.... :)

sorry Atj... Mandy is 16... and I so dont wanna go to jail... well not for someone else anyways... ;)

It's not booked yet, but it is looking very promising for me to be in Syd on that Sunday.

Likely to be a very early start, flying out of Launnie 6.10am (so I will be up about 4am) to arrive 9.35am, else my likely next arrival is about 2:30pm.
