Software for compiling DVDHi Guys,
Can anyone recommend some free software I can download (or trial software) which allows you to put together a collection of images onto a DVD and have music playing in the backgroupnd. Thanks W00DY Andrew
Nikon D3 and lot's of Nikon stuff!!
I know of lots of paid software that lets you do that.. I know Sonic MyDVD does this very easily and comes with many DVD-burners.. but I can't think of anything freeware off hand..

In my opinion, it's hard to go past Proshow gold fron Photodex.com
It's not free, around US$60 but they do have a fully working (puts a watermark) trial version. __________

I suppose us Mac owners do have some luck, sometimes. I am putting together a wedding DVD at the moment (still shots) with iMovie, iDVD and iTunes and it is an absolute breeze.

Woody,
Sounds like you want to put together a Powerpoint presentation. Powerpoint will do this, but as you know it is not free. OpenOffice has its own presentation software and may be able to handle what you want it to do. Cheers Matt
The Icon in the weekend paper had an article about Microsofts free and downloadable program for doing what you want to do. It has all the bells and whistles and the price is right. Unfortunatly I have thrown out the article and the web address....but it should be on the Microsoft site. If you get it could you please post the address for other members?
Regards
Matt. K
Looks like you might have been referring to Microsoft Photo Story 3? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx I am going ot download it know and give it a go. Will let you know. Thanks for all the other replies W00DY Andrew

Hi Woody, I'm sure you've already been, but just incase, you could try http://www.tucows.com for software. They have a whole bunch of share and freeware software available there.
Hope this helps. W
Proshow Gold
Yes, I use Proshow Gold too - I have for a couple of years, and the current version is terrific. It is very flexible and, more importantly, very fast. Some of the other programs take forever to render the slideshow. I recommend that you try the trial version for free & then decide. The new Adobe Elements 3 also does this, but I haven't used it; and ACDSee 7 will also do it too, although previous versions were a bit clunky to my mind.
Nero Express also does it, but whether you got it bundled with your burner is a lucky dip. I bought a Lite-on CDRW about a year ago that came with it, then a Sony DVDR a few months ago that didn't. Both were Nero OEM products, but the Sony didn't include it.
You could go the full version, but that's not a freebie. The OEM one isn't really either, but if you happen to have bought the right burner it's close enough! Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
I have the full version of Nero 6 (e-bay = $20) does this do it does it??? I never knew that. I'll check it out tonight (well maybe Friday night). W00DY Andrew

Yup, should do. There's a bit of silliness around creating SVCDs, where it tells you to get the advanced pack (or something close), but I couldn't find it on their website.

I'd have to concur with other posters that ProShow Gold is the go. It has the ability to add nice transition effects between slides and pan and zoom effects on your image (the so called Ken Burns" effect named after the documentary maker).
You can also add music, specify 4:3 or 16:9 output, create PC slideshows and screen savers and output to CD SVCD or DVD. And no, I don't work for them Cheers Stubbsy
Turns out I meant NeroVision Express. More here:
