At one of the lunches in a cruise ship, the lady next to me told me she had been in Spain a few times on holidays and she was very fond of Spanish food. Once of the dishes on offer in the menu was paella. With her permission, I took a picture of her dish. I explained to her that there are many variations of paella not only in Spain (more than 1200 variations at the last count), but also they cook paella in Latin America and the Philippines. Let's not count the paellas of any chef or cook that has tried to put “a personal touch” to this icon ...

Flew to Melbourne and then spent almost 3 hours in a traffic jam getting into the airshow. Great day but organisation of the event was pitiful. Anyways, the action was phenomenal, and despite very poor lighting conditions throughout the day, many photos were taken. I only have a 70-200 lens and something longer would have been nice but them thar lenses are expensive blighters!

The Museo de Ciencias Naturales (National Science Museum) in Madrid has a collection of early human skulls on display. These remains come from Atapuerca, a site of caves near Burgos in northern Spain, known for the abundant human (genus Homo) remains discovered there beginning in 1976. The cave called Sima de los Huesos (“Pit of the Bones”), where more than 1,600 human fossils, including several nearly complete skulls, have been found. The age of this material is at least 300,000 years and may be as old as 600,000 years. The brain cavity si ...

You might have heard about Cherry Blossom and thought of Japan. But, Hungarians also enjoy picnicking among the cherry blossoms in the spring. The Budapest’s cherry trees burst into colour in April sharing the vivid pink and perfume. I hope you like it.

Cardboard Cathedral (Christchurch)

The Transitional Cathedral of Christchurch (NZ), as it is also called, was built entirely from recycled materials after the 2011 earthquake. The Anglican cathedral was in ruins so they built this beautiful building with a final price tag of NZ$5.9 million. Ironically, this modern building, despite of being cheaper, is more flexible and more capable of resisting earthquakes than the old stone cathedral, now under repair. This A frame church is covered externally (roof and walls) with water resistant material; while its metal frame is covered wit ...

We traveled along the Stuart Highway towards Uluru and stopped to admire the landscape. We walked up the side of the road on the desert sand and saw in the distance a salt lake and the desert’s grasses, bushes and wildflowers. I hope you like it.

We arrived at Napier, a popular tourist city in New Zealand, and walked the streets admiring its Art Deco architecture of the 1930s. After the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, the damaged part of the city was rebuilt in the modern Art Deco of the times. I took this picture inside a bank and I hope you like it.

It's all Gary Stark's fault, that is, continually adding new lens to the arsenal of photographic equipment that sits in my study. If it wasn't for DSLRusers, I most probably now would be playing golf or fishing or collecting butterflies... :biglaugh:

I have added the tiny Sigma 105mm F1.4 to my collection. (Coming in at 3.6lbs it is a lens and gym membership all in one). First day out with it yesterday and it's always handy to have some ...

When visiting Salamanca with friends a few years ago we were having afternoon coffee when we heard the sounds of flute, drums and singing; we came out to check what such commotion was about. A parade of people dressed in regional costumes was passing through the street carrying flower offerings with an image of Our Lady of the Vale. The “Offering” is a celebration to thank and honour the Holy Virgin. On the 15th of August, the local people in their regional costumes take the Virgin through the streets and place it in front of the cathedral ...

While I was in lock-down I amused myself playing with the camera. This is one of the pictures I took. It’s curious what the camera can see but the human eye and brain can’t.

We arrived in Fiordland National Park (New Zealand) and our large cruise ship ventured into the sounds of this magnificent land. We entered Breaksea Sound and came out of Dusky Sound. I hope you enjoy this photo, which I thought lost like all of them, but fortunately I managed to recover most of them if not all. Happy days!
