The Sumatran tiger is the only surviving tiger population on the Indonesian Island of Sumatra, the Bali and Java tigers are extinct. Hunter was born in captivity and is very tame, but went blind at an early age and the doctors were unable to save its vision.

I photographed this plant at Kings Canyon (NT). The flowers live best in arid and semi-arid climates and have white fluffy hairs. The local aborigines calls it Mulla Mulla, but its scientific name is Ptilotus Exaltatus.

Drops of water falling into a pan of water. The motions and shapes are too fast for the eye to see, but the camera can freeze the movement.

You can find this image in one of the sides of the enclosure housing a blind Sumatran tiger at the Australian Zoo. It’s a reproduction of a possible image you might find in an old temple in Sumatra. It reminds me of the Jungle Book.

In February 1942, a DC3 crashed in the remote Vansittart Bay while flying from Perth to Broome. The disoriented pilot made an emergency landing in bad weather on a salt pan, but to his credit, all crew and passengers survived and they continued their Kimberley. Days later, they were rescued by a passing QANTAS flying boat.

The Imperial Cave is one of the many galleries of The Jenolan Caves. It just happened Queen Victoria was being crowned Empress of India at the time this gallery was being explored. These limestone caves are located west of Katoomba (74 kilometres) by road) and dating back to 340 million years ago, making it the oldest known cave system in the world. North of Alice Springs and about 40km from the sprawling and impressive silhouette of Kings Canyon, in the middle of the Australian outback, we met Rosie. She was introduced as the matriarch of Kings Creek Station. Rosie ruled with fierce determination.

Wellington’s cable car opened for business on 22 February 1902. Interest for the new facility proved so great that from about 4,000 people that used in the opening weekend grew to over a million in 1912 and in1926 it transported over two million people between Wellington’s harbour and its hills – more than the population of New Zealand at the time.

While visiting Sidney in March we went to a rock pool at sunrise. It was a magnificent experience though the water was chilled and uninviting. The phot itself it is a counter light or silhouette type of picture. I hope you like it!

While staying at the Hotel Corones in Charleville we did a tour of the venue. In a room and against the wall there were some old suitcases, ladies hats and flowers sat on top of them insinuating a wedding. I remembered as a child seeing people with similar old and bruised suitcases containing quite possible all they had. I hope you like it!

By 1922 the martini cocktail reached its most recognizable form in which London dry gin and dry vermouth were combined in a glass mixer with ice and stirred at a ratio of 2:1 and decorated with either a green olive, a twist of lemon peel, or a little onion. The sweet variation changed the dry vermouth for sweet vermouth and used a orange peel and or a maraschino cherry for decoration giving it a bittersweet taste. Enjoy it!
