Lots of boulders, encrusted with the natural salts after the evaporation of the water from the natural springs.

Great stuff Gary. Are you sure the first isn't a Mars' photograph from NASA? That's what it looks like.
I've been to Death Valley or at least nearby. You reckon Bakersfield is the pits? Try visiting Trona sometime! Borax central.

Yes, the landscape is really interesting, as is the absence of diversity of the colours.
The Las Vegas routing into the Valley is really interesting and quite painless. I'm surprised that I'd not previously considered it, but it worked a treat.
