I encountered this weird looking flower in Uluru two years ago and later last year in Coober Pedy. The flower has a distinctive blood-red leaf-like flowers, each with a bulbous centre called "boss". It is one of Australia's best known wildflowers. It is native to the arid regions of central and north-western Australia.
