Guuguubarra
Kookaburras with their easily recognisable sound which sounds like a human laughter, are terrestrial tree kingfishers. The Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay and Wiradjuri people called this bird “guuguubarra”, which to a westerner’s ear sounds like “kookaburra.” This bird is native to the eastern mainland part of Australia. The call of a kookaburra nicknamed "Jacko" was for many years used as the morning opening theme by ABC radio stations, and for Radio Australia's overseas broadcasts. Did you know that the collective noun for a group of these birds is a "riot?"
