Only Six Members
When: Early January? Mid January or late January?
Where:Outer Sydney? Central Coast? South coast?Hunter Valley? Blue Mountain? any ideas?
Duration: 1/2 day or full day?
Subject: Bird, wildlife, panorama?
We have to arrange one workshop for each month next year.

I would like to arrange a shoot at Blues Point...near Luna Park..one afternoon at about 3.30pm so that members can do some long range photography and then photograph the city as dusk falls and the colours change. Then a bit of night photography and perhaps a cheap restaraunt for a bite to eat then home.
This should enable most Sydney users to attend.
Any ideas?

That's a great ideas for short distance travel but when can we do this workshop, and number of members have to be limited to 6 or 7, am I right?

PostPosted: Sat Dec 04, 2004 8:34 pm
by Matt. K
I think that number would be about right. This meet would be in addition to the meet you would like to arrange over a full day.
No reason we can't have 2 meets.

I agreed, the meet in the morning is for refreshment and talk about techniques, warm up etc... and head off to the city after that until dark.
and when early, mid or late January?
then we start to get member register, maximum is 7 members

and of course with your camera, tripod, lens(es)

I bags a spot! Blues Point works for me. Luna Park apparently has free entry too (you just pay for the rides). We could go for a cuppa while waiting for the light to change or something.
I'll make myself free whatever day it is!!

You have picked up hot spots all over the coin. Best technique is to get some heavy tracing paper..make a tube and place the coin in...take the flash off the camera and fire it through the side so that the light becomes diffused. Shoot through the top. An old white plastic icecream container turned upside down with a hole cut through the base for the lens will also work. This technique is also excellent for jewellary or anything that is small and shiny.
Give it a try and see if you like the results.

thanks Matt

This sounds good to me guys.

Book me in. I'm up at the Gold Coast from 26th of January for a week so if we can make it before then that would be great.

I'll keep track of this.

Kris,
This is not a meet at Blues Point.

It' a full day workshop.
Morning: Talk and discuss about techniques, lighting etc...
Lunch
Afternoon: Practice, shooting, learning (at Blues Point from 3:30PM))
Dinner: Chinatown or other location, it's depend on where are most members come from for a quick bite before heading home.

OK guys
Looks like Blues Point is going to be a popular meet. No reason why we can't do it on 2 different days to acommodate those who can't make it the first time. Somebody please nail down 2 dates.

I know; I had to look twice when I saw it.

Then I picked up the phone, but the consultant couldn't find it at first.

Looks like all the planes are pretty full though; no seats on Dec 26, just 1 on Dec 27 ... none on Jan 7, some on Jan 6.

That's about the time Birddog wakes up. ;) And seeing the time of this post, I've yet gone to bed, so I might be a little late to the meet.

Birdie, If I had known you were up at 4am for a cuppa, I could have popped over and still be back at 7am to have breakfast with the wife. Hope you guys have a great time at the meet today, wish I was there. :D

What are the rules?

I'd love to come to something like this. For me, though, the D70 was bought partly so significant other and I would have a joint interest, so we'd need to come together which, as we have a 12 yr old (who is also just starting to get interested in photography, thankfully), means him as well.

I'm keen to come up to at least one meet while I'm on holidays (most of January) and this gathering sounds really great, but I but don't want to upset other members - I noticed you were looking for a small group for this particular shoot.

Can you let me know if there are any suitable events in January that our little trio could attend without causing disruption?

Also, I'm keen to ensure that we come to something where rank amateurs are OK. I wouldn't want to annoy someone who can set up, take their shots and be packed away while we're still trying to get the tripod up! PS: While we'd be sharing the D70, our son would probably just ignore everyone else in the group and snap away happily on our old 995.

You would all be welcome...and we love the fact that beginners are prepared to come along and soak up some tips. That's what the forum is all about.

I’m really tempted to start flying down for most or some of these workshops next year.
The more I can learn, the better the enjoyment

& getting to know all the Syd members would be an added bonus!!!!!!! 8)

Cheers

And she will be more than welcome.

The date's been set - shouldn't be too hard to figure it out - we're just getting the details together into a legible form and I'll make an announcement, hopefully before the end of the weekend.
