Lense Information - Am I right?

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. Lense Information - Am I right?

Recently I have been suffering from lense lust and browsing around realised I did not know for sure what this meant,

e.g. AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED

Does this mean that @ 18mm the f stop is 3.5 and that @ 70mm it is 4.5? :roll:


(I did search around, but could not find an explanation)

If anyone has an explanation or a link to one, much appreciated.
