PotW 23.10.07

This weeks Picture of the Week is by Keith (Firsty) taken at Philip Island of Casey Stoner on his Ducati.

Undeniably an excellent image by itself, I chose this image because it has Australia's MotoGP Worl Champion Casey Stoner and a Ducati in it. You can see the concentration in Casey's eyes, then you look at the rear tyre and see what section of it he is riding on. All of Keith images looked excellent, the thread is here and well worth looking at.

Great action pic. Congrats Keith, and well chosen Glen.

I like:
- the eyes of the rider can be seen through his visor and the concentration is evident

- the degree of lean! I haven't ridden a bike since I was a teenager, but I can't fathom how they get the bikes over so far without losing it. And I assume that he is going at a fair rate of speed as well.

- I was going to say that I didn't like the blue curbing, but just while I have been typing this, I realised that it does give some depth to the shot. It's just that the bright colour makes it so distracting.

Glen,

A fantastic choice. Congratulations, Keith.

This is a wonderful shot, and, as can be seen by the brightness of the colours, both on the bike, and in the surroundings, as well as the detail in the rider's eyes, Keith has well and truly nailed this image.

Print it big, Keith.

Fantastic shot. I agree with Gary that the colours are superb.

It reminds me of one of my favourite photos this year with Stoner leant over and looking ahead and Rossi right on his back wheel.

It's great to get those eyes in the shot. Makes it more dramatic than just a mirrored visor.

Great shot and POTW choice. I trust Keith didn't use anything but a SanDisk card?

Casey would be pleased with this one I'm sure!!

Stunning image with all the elements of racing captured in the details

While I have the same set up (D200, 70 - 200 VR with 1.7 TC) I'm a long way off getting this quality of final image.

Congrats on your podium finish in POTW!

cheers
R2 BTW Keith what settings did you use for the Frederico Sandi pic - I love the blend of distinct blues and overall crispness,

thanks for the POTW Glen I'm glad you liked it
I was lucky that this was taken when the track was just drying out and Casey was still using a clear visor

the shot was taken with the 70-200 and 1.7 tele at full zoom, wide open, jpeg
so 340mm, ISO 200, f4.8, 1/1000 and is a very heavy crop loosing about 1/3 off each side as well as top and bottom (you can only get so close when you don't have a media pass)

Rookie2
the Sandi pic was taken with the 70-200 with 1.7 tele 290mm ISO 200 F8 1/500 in jpeg fine large and was slightly over exposed at that setting, it has been darkened in post with about a 10% croped off as I had to leave a little room around the bikes to make sure they stayed in frame with the speed they were going

Thanks Keith

Interested to see you using jpeg fine..is that bc you are confident with your exposures (I'm not) and you are trying to get as many pics per card?

I'm still fiddling with my settings so use RAW and mainly AP or SP..its easier with cricket and footy but still difficult getting that sharp action pic in frame without having to do a lot of PP'ing or cropping/1 (all good fun though)

thanks for the info
