POTW for 31st August, 2010 - Guest selector...

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW for 31st August, 2010 - Guest selector...

Postby fozzie on Tue Aug 31, 2010 7:55 pm

On behalf of the DSLRUsers Team, I would like to thank surenj for his input this week...and we have a tie.

The choice was quite easy as there weren't a lot of images to review from the last 10 days. Two images particularly caught my eye and it was difficult to decide between the two. I have selected them both to be POTW as they are both deserving in their own right.

Ozimax's couple portrait is a prime example of a photo that captures the soul. The usual photographic principles go out the window in this case! Thanks for sharing this picture with us.

The next image is from Loachlover which depicts the forlorn captivity of a chimp. What a great example of how we treat our cousins ( ) and most importantly, how we tend to treat each other these days.

Also I'd like to mention the Ektar portraits by Cameron which had very interesting tonality and Baby Esabelle #5 by Lucifer which portrays a great urban baby portrait!

Both excellent images. The chip shot illustrates how (in)human we really are.

The couple shot reminds me of a picture by the great American artist Hopper.

Many thanks Fozzie, and congrats Loachlover, a striking, sombre image. During a recent trip to Thailand I found the monkeys and chimps hilarious, but also sad at times.
