POTW 29th July 2014 - Selection by Photohiker aka Michael

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW 29th July 2014 - Selection by Photohiker aka Michael

Clearly I am paying the POTW selectors waaayy too much :)
Thanks for taking the time to view and select Michael.

I think this is the second time in a row I have nominated you for POW!

Anyway, here is my selection for this week's Picture of the week:

Image

Sometimes, less is more and this image displays that in spades. The stark (!) hillside with a lonely tree captures your attention and then the gathering of 'somethings' on the horizon draws your eye. The tree sits dead centre of the image, showing that rules can be broken without destroying an image. The subtle tones of the foreground and background help and I agree with the suggestion that this be printed large.

Well done! (again) :)

Lovely photo and good choice. But, should the photo be showing in the portal?
I refreshed the page several times but the old picture still shows.
