Challenge rules (update 3/10)Just storing the rules in a thread that I can keep referencing
Updates in bold... Challenge is at http://www.potofgrass.com/gallery/ Some rules: *The right is reserved to remove any image not conforming to the rules and denying re-entry to the challenge. The right is also reserved to remove or deny entry to any images that the challenge organiser does not feel comfortable displaying... Images which have a greater than PG rating should be shown to the comp organiser first *Images must have been taken using a digital SLR body *Submitted images must have at least a minimal set of EXIF tags attached that show information critical to eligibility (date and camera body) * Images posted to the Challenge site must conform to the theme and/or rules of the specific challenge *Images must be TAKEN during the challenge time frame *The format for the comp will be JPEG,no size limit * Unless allowed as part of the specific challenge images may not be edited. Post processing is allowed. Allowed actions include: Levels, unsharp mask, cropping, framing, resizing (to the entry size), white ballance, RAW channel mixing (for RAW to Jpeg conversion), cloning for the purposes of removing dust spots or hotpixels, hue sat adjustments including conversion to black and white. * Only users who are Members of DSLRusers.com. By Members we mean people with full access to the forum, for information on becoming a full member see the FAQ * Images must be hidden apon submission. After submission a users submission may be changed, deleted or altered until the time of the comp close *As much as possible the image must be anonymus, that is no chimping on the forum and no blatantly obvious images... The reason for this rule is to remove any suspicion that an image won due to the popularity of the photographer... Of course there are situations where style etc. will give the photographer away *Some challenges may have prizes associated with them. The rules governing the awarding of the prizes (what placed get what, eligibility (domestic and foreign), tie resolution etc) is will be decided by the donor or agent and their decision will be final with no correspondence entered into (on my part) . *registration is required ( And is only open to Members (see FAQ)) to enter and vote in the challenge, users can register by PMing me the following information -Username -Primary camera body -preferred name -email address (required! used to change password etc) *Entrants can only win one Major and one Minor first prize each calendar year. Whether a prize is Major or Minor will be announced at the start of the comp but in general a Major prize is awarded for two round comps while Minor prizes are awarded for single round comps. In addition second place (first runner up) prize in a Major round will be considered as a Minor first prize for the purposes of the above. Entrants can still win comps, but the prize will go to the next runner up (but the winner retains the Qudos) *MOST IMPORTANT: enjoy!! REMOVED: (no longer part of the rules) * The theme for the next comp will be decided by the winner of the previous one. He/she has two days to come up with a theme or a "random one" will be decided UPDATED: 3/10/06 Last edited by MHD on Tue Oct 03, 2006 10:34 pm, edited 8 times in total.

Apart from putting this all in one spot, have you updated anything? If so it might be an idea to flag the updates (say in a different colour). Peter Disclaimer: I know nothing about anything. *** smugmug galleries: http://www.stubbsy.smugmug.com ***

a sb800 as a prize! damn i need to pay more attention.
with regard to the rules, a question, does it have to be taken by ME? ... or just my camera? (and under my instruction, with my decision on settings.) cheers
good question...You must own the rights to the image (ie the copyright)
90% of the time it must be taken by you but, as you suggested, I can see exceptions... (mind you, thats what the self timer and remote control are for ) New page

 Scott...
What happened to the anonymity rule??? I'm sure it used to be in the list of rules... Also - are Curve adjustments allowed in PP? Right place, right time, where the hecks my camera ...

Hmm... Will add.. Yes... Most things that Globally affect the image are OK! New page

Bugger, I just rePPed my submission because I thought I couldn't use curves. Oh well, it came out ok. So I guess there isn't a precise list of what's allowed and it's somewhat subjective as to what is PP and what is retouching/editing. I'm sure people are sensible enough about it to know the difference. Thanks for clarifying, - Rog
I think its a case of anything that doesnt utilise a "local" tool, such as desaturating with a desaturate sponge, or cloning out a head from one person to another. So long as its a change thats global, like overall saturation increase, as opposed to just saturating someones head.
ie, you cant ADD motion blurs, or pretend bokeh etc .. http://davidsonimagery.com/
Right place, right time, where the hecks my camera ...
 Exactly.
Changes have to be global as in, affecting the entire image. With the exception of cloning out things like dust elements, local changes are the gist of what isn't allowed. For instance, you could change curves and the colour for the entire image, but not feather parts so as only to change those individual parts. You could clone out dust in areas, but you can't clone in an extra object in another place if you wanted it to. I think the point is that the image still has to be something you've shot with as little Photoshop (sorry... Adobe® Photoshop®... ) intervention as possible. Am I anywhere near right, Scott? New changes I think are good, I guess we are all starting with a clean slate (calendar year wise, good luck all).
I see, maybe, one problem with the following point:
 * Images posted to the Challenge site must conform to the theme and/or rules of the specific challenge Who determines whether or not it conforms to the theme as each and every one of us may interpret the theme in a way not understandable by others Chris -------------------------------- I started my life with nothing and I’ve still got most of it left
I think the whole set of rules have to be revised otherwise there're lot of mis-information and mis-understanding. Birddog114

Nice additions to the rules Scott.
I was wondering what would happen. I wasn't planning on entering anymore - not that I am saying I would win - but the addition of winning but prize goes to others is cool. Matt
can anyone tell me the rules around voting eligibility?
Are voters public, or must they qualify to register? thanks Oz/
Oz, the voters must register with Scott, which generally means all the participants and any member who chose not to participate as an entrant. To register with Scott you must be a full member here.
So no, your wife, mistress, girlfriend, brother, football club can't vote for you

Unless they all join, become members (so post a bit) and find out which top secret identity of your photo.

 Not quite Craig
If your fanboys know it's your image then the image is ineligible Peter Disclaimer: I know nothing about anything. *** smugmug galleries: http://www.stubbsy.smugmug.com ***
Sorry if I wasn't clear I was joking...
as the image authors (can I use author in this case) are kept secret having you footy club become members or anyone else join wouldn't be of assistance, and it clearly wouldn't be in the spirit of the competition.

To be able to vote, the requirements are the same, as you are a member, send a PM to MHD and he should organise a username. Note that you don't have to have submitted a photo in the challenge, any qualifying member can vote, the more the merrier cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. This is a simple question, but as it wasn't clear to me upon re-re-re-reading the rules, I thought I would ask: If I have registered for a previous (in fact, the last) Challenge, do I remain registered or do I have to re-register for each Challenge?
 Cheers P Regards, Patrick
