This was the first image taken with my D3. I wanted my first shot with the D3 to be at the finish of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and I wanted my wife Alison to be in the shot. So I had the camera for 18 hours without pressing the shutter once, not even for practice. Shutter actuations = 1 on this image.

Taken with D3, 85/1.4, ISO 200, 1/3200. It is a 100% crop of the jpeg straight out of the D3 with all default settings. No PP.

This is Alison checking out Wot Yot at Kings Pier Marina in Hobart. Wot Yot crossed the line in 9th place.

Great shot, John. What self control you have. I think you must be one of those people that carefully open your Christmas presents, without tearing the paper. Now you will have to make up for lost time.

Wow, that is amazing self control :) Congrats on your new toy. The D3 and 85mm will be a beautiful combination.

That is a great first shot. It is a little busy, but I think that actually conveys the feeling of a crowded marina after a major race.

You should be well pleased.
