late at night and against my better judgemnent this is my first photo posting here - I did do one on dpreview in my first couple of weeks of owning the d70 but was not ready for the 'feedback' - such a big site and I think people assumed I had more knowledge than I had.
I took this by mistake and only discovered the errant boot once downloaded - it had come off as he was running past.
I have had lots of trouble getting sharp sports photos and am usually disappointed with the many shots I take...nothing like more and more practice tho.
what do people generally use for action sports - manual or auto focus? i used auto with footy and manual for cricket but the majority (99%) are throwaways.
 thanks for looking.cheers

Interesting shot definitely an unusual capture, a bit small for easy viewing though we do appreciate your concern for bandwidth. Your image is 240 pixels wide, we ask people to keep any dimension under 800 pixels, maybe put this one up at 500 or 600 wide

 Looks like a good capture!
But as is previously said alittle larger would be great!

 Cheers

Unexpected shots like this sometimes turn up some really cool captures...
This one looks like the owner of the boot has spat the dummy and turfed it in disgust Yeah, DPReview can be an errr, ummm, interesting site... Now you know why most of us prefer to hang around here where it's actually friendly Re; Auto or manual focus, I don;t do any sports stuff but I assume auto-focus would be able to track accurately and give you sharp shots... I assume you'd use continuous focus (as opposed to single focus)?
 Cheers mate.[/list]Aka Andrew

I'm by no means a nexpert here, 96% of my cricket photos are throwaway and much less thrown in other sports. (Maybe cricket itself should be the throw away )
I've found auto focus at the cricket is fine - most of the action is about 100m away anyway but the odd time I try to capture fielder and ball on the run continuous, auto focus works best for me.

Rookie - not that I am an expert but if you try the sports mod e on top first it will give you a fair idea of shutter speeds/apeture sizes that you are taking and you can then play around from there. Also do you shoot in single shot or continuous burst - you use more shots, but you just might find that you capture that "perfect" shot you might have otherwise have missed. Hope that helps...

I've had a lot of success with the sport mod e on the D70S. In fact I think the 'S' in D70S stands for sport!! I agree with the recommendation to use continuous burst mod e as well as you have a much better chance of catching that special moment. When I do high speed shots I typically take the camera out of RAW mod e as the burst works a lot quicker.D70S

Welcome to the forum, you will find lots of great information here and friendly souls as well.
I have tried photographing kids sports with mixed success, so I can't offer much advice. Good luck.

 Cheers

thanks for all the sports photos tips. I'll be out ther again this w/ e and will concentrate on using the sports mod e, multi burst, AF - C and largest JPeg files instead of RAW, A/S Priprity and manual focussing - should be intersting to compare!
I am having trouble with uploading onto the flickr site - why do my images come out this small even when uploaded at higher (ie 1024 x 768) as flickr recommends but they only come up as these little images
this is one from my trusty Sony DSC V1 from a year ago in SE Asia..why does it come out so small?
 any info gratefull accepted..again.
