At this stage, we have solid numbers, 9-10. Planned costs include cabs, airfare, light lunch for all, hiring chairs and tables. This will cost around $100 each (as per original plan). Maybe a little less when we book the flight. So, I propose we lock it in to this weekend. Anyone second that? Matt, Saturday, or Sunday?
i will 2nd that weekend! i would rather sat so sunday can be spent revising the previous day in our own time rather than struggling over the week after work
but yes it is all matts decision! i'm very grateful that he is prepared to give his time to teach us noobs well i speak for myself! Canon EOS 40D

Saturday 24th February.
Ok, list looks something like this: Oz_Beachside 7zark7 Kyle !~DeViNe~DaRkNeSs~! photograham Greg B kab blinkblink pucara photograham - margaret Skyva Supported by DaveB, and MHD. Depending on flight and incidentals, costs will be $70-90 each.
Please PM me that the above list are still planning to attend.
Session will be 10am-4pm in StKilda Victoria. I will email / PM more details over the weekend. We have two options, I can get some simple catering (sandwiches, pies/quiches etc) or we can walk up to the shops (200m) and grab a bite, or cook a BBQ (BYO food and drink). Perhaps the BYO BBQ would be the cheapest, but catering would be the easiest/quickest. I'll take a vote...
i like the walk to the shops idea
i will still be attending i have just got my new puter but made the huge mistake of installing Vista and nothing will install properly, this includes gfx+m/b drivers and yes Photoshop Canon EOS 40D

Ah bugger....that will teach me to keep up to date with the forum.
Just what I need, but unfortunately I am busy anyway. Good luck everyone, hopefully I can make the next one... damn....
Hi all, it was great to catch up today and meet MattK today along with a few more familiar faces. Sorry I could not stick about but in the hour I had there I still learnt one or two tricks I did not know about. That's Photoshop for you! Thanks again and hopefully catch up again soon! Cheers for now, Ants

A GREAT WORKSHOP!!!
Thanks MattK for your knowledge sharing and instruction. Running through all the menu's and toolbars with demonstration of each has given us a big box of tools, from which to select a handful to take away, study, practice, practice, and practice. Great to meet some new faces, and see some familiar faces again Thanks to all involved, things went very well! Now... onto that new selection technique...
Just wondering if any one videoed this workshop as I couldn't make it.
Id be happy to help out with conversion to DVD etc if needed.
The audio for the middle session before lunch didn't work, but the rest worked OK. I'm not sure how useful it will be to someone who wasn't there though (although if we edit it down to selected highlights there'll should be useful content).
The levels weren't perfect (I just had a mic pair on the desk with the laptop, so while it captured most of the conversations around the room the levels vary a bit). It's over 130MB of MP3 as it stands, and I was mainly treating this as practice with the new audio recorder. I'll see what I can do with it. It was an interesting day!
It was great to meet up with the Melbourne branch of the forum! I'm impressed with some of the expertise you guys have down there....there's a wealth of collective knowledge amongst you. Thanks to Bruce for putting it all together.....these things take skill and effort to organise. I also picked up a few extra tips on Photoshop so I am well satisfied! Now...let's see the pictures. PS Nice to catch up with Scott and Dave. B again, and to finally meet Antsl who delightfully keeps me on my toes and re-evaluating my work flow.
Thanks for the effort guys. Regards
Matt. K
Marg & Graham both send their thanks to Matt for a terrific presentation yesterday. We both got a lot out of the day and are now heading to the computers to try to put it into practice. Hope you had a good day in a city where you can still get around!!!
Special thanks to Bruce for organising the day and to Bruce & Luke for allowing us to mess his place up again. Thanks also to Dave B for your additional input.
And to further follow up on yesterday, I have now tried Matt's High Pass filter sharpening method on a couple of shots and it improved them well.
Thanks again Matt!!!!!
Was great meeting everyone! and the bit I was actually able to stay for was very interesting...
Look forward to the next event! New page

Yep, I'd like to echo comments already made. Thanks Bruce & Luke for giving up your place, your wonderful hospitality and organising the day. Thanks Matt, for the great presentation, and thanks Dave for your input. Enjoyed meeting the forum folk.
I certainly would've kicked myself had I missed this session. Hopefully this is the first of many....
