We have so many talented photogs frequenting this forum. I propose we do the same. Lets shoot for a specific cause. There is nothing like the joy of giving.

Where, how , when still to be decided.

I am keen early next year around mid Feb....

Here's a thought,

I was driving back thru Raymond Terrace and stopped off at the Botanic Gardens there as I quite often do, its a great place to stop and have lunch on teh trip back to sydney, the gardens are run by volunteers and get most of their running costs from sponsers and not from the council, how about doing somethign for them or some similiar mob where we could take a whole bunch of macros of the flowers, bugs, plants etc for them to use for postcards? website? ids? the list goes on....I reckon that would actually be a very enjoyable session of photography.

yeah, just north of newie...

I am also kicking myself for not thinking about it last year too! However, I am sure there are similiar places in Sydney? The only reason the botanic gardens pricked my interest is because of the great enthusiasm of the volunteers there and teh sheer fact it runs on those volunteers only!

Yep. Last year we would had a nice base to work from.

There has to be similar (or not) places we can get involved [in Sydney]. Nothing springs to mind though. Locals schools may let us cover their events?

Following up on this thread - again this is a hindsight thing.

The images I took of Anzac day and the marches sparked a fair bit of interest from people I know so I shot a email off to the RSL with regard to one of the images, from that they asked if they could utilise some of the images for their media and publications. They offered remuneration, however after some thought I thought this would be a great way to 'give back' especially since they do appear to operate on donations only.

In addition to that, they recognized several of the war veterans in the images and requested to be able to present a copy of the image to them. That there was probably the best thing for me, I am sure some of these old guys and their families do not get to see many of the images that get taken of them every year so I thought thats a great way to be able to say thanks to these guys.

Maybe this could be something for next year for people to think about.

I would suggest contacting the RSL (at a State level) and offer them the following;

X number of photographers to cover the march and cenotaph etc (all photographers insured).
Access to images for their use free of charge.
Access to the RSL to supply images to members etc.
Ensure that they understand that photographers are free to use images for their own purposes also.

It would be a simple thing to propose to them, I'd imagine they would be happy with the thought also.

And by the way, we don’t want to see your photos. This is about GIVING the pictures, not taking them. These portraits are not for your portfolio, website, or for sale. Money isn’t involved here. This holiday season, you have the chance to give a family something they may have never had before—a portrait together.

It's an idea that Jeremy Cowart created and I'd back it. In fact, I signed up last week to help out in the Melbourne event in anyway I can. Not behind the camera though. I'll leave that to the pros.

In other years it was a condition that none of the photos were shown by the photographers. This year they asking permission to put them on a website to raise the exposure of this event. The subject writes anything they want on the photo and then they're displayed online (if they consent to it).

The promo videos will tug at the heart strings.

That's a nice gesture Adam. I am however keen to take pictures (as it's a hobby) rather than serving soup etc...

Suren, when you fill out the application you pick a section that you believe you could be useful in. If I had portrait experience then I would've put that down and I'd happily take photos for people. But as it stands now I'd be wasting people's time.
I also listed post processing as something I could help out with as I can drive LR and PS.

Thanks for the explanation Adam. This sounds too formalised and stiff. This would take the fun out of it (for me anyways). Besides, it sounds like it's for the pros anyway.
