Nikon D810

With everyone getting new bodies, I think that separate section for you to proudly display your first image from your new acquisition is in order.

This applies to brand new bodies, as well as bodies that are simply newly acquired by you.

Nikon D810

I got this as a very nice gift from the missus before our trip back home to down under. This is the first image that didn't include taking test shots of the box at home.

I was blown away by the sensor that's in this camera. I finally found a Nikon body that's making me love shooting with it again. The D700 does feel rather clunky now next to this body. I've had a chance to play around with it some more including some portrait jobs. The autofocus is amazing and I feel confident using the different image crop modes and group AF.

Low light photography is just a no brainer with this camera. I used to feel ISO6400 was pushing the limit. With the D810, I don't have second thoughts about confidently shooting at ISO10k and getting decent prints from it. The limit is ISO12800 before you hit the expansion ISOs.

There have been a couple of times I've been caught out because the buttons have been moved around a bit, but that just means I now get to sell off the 700 to upgrade to a second body

Thanks for the feedback, I've got the 700 and the 800 and still umming and arhing over if I upgrade the 700 to a 810 or a 2nd hand 800. The other component is if I have $$$ after paying for the trip next year to throw at gear or not, as I was hoping to add a GoPro to the shooting line up as well.

Really like the balance in this shot, different lighting, interesting lines. It's very pleasing to the eye and encourages you to explore the image.

It depends on what you want to shoot. The upgrade from the 700 to 800 or 810 is pretty much a no brainer.

The 700 shutter sounds quite clunky after using the 810.

If you want a smaller image then shoot in dx or 4x5 crop.

Price wise, I see the 810 as a camera I would keep for at least 5 years, much like the 700.

The sensor on the 810 though is just magnificent. I can't wait to see how the large format prints come out from this camera.

Nice shots, and great missus too. My wife gave me a Nikon D810...sticker, for the back of the car. :biglaugh:

Yup that's HK airport.

The shadow detail with the people milling about and with the cranes outside when pixel peeping is astounding with this camera. It's the only Nikon camera that has had me this excited with Nikon in a long time

i read somehthing not long ago about the shadow detail in the nikon sensors saying that wedding togs were using creative underexpsoiure to get dramatic skies or exposing for the brides dress without fear cos they can pull out so much fro mthe shadows.

yeah the shadow detail is pretty crazy - that said I reckon some the colours, particularly the yellow/red suffer as a result...

anyway here's a recent example of some crazy shadow recovery, something not possible without bracketing in the past...

Of course, the 810 is state of the art and priced accordingly. It is an image capture machine par excellence!

Nothing short of amazing spitting out 13x19 prints on my 3880. Too bad we don't have the space here for many large prints :D
